From my understanding its not an actual canal at all. Its a Train that carries cargo back and forth
Sounds like the story behind the hwy 190 bridge.

Did you know Nicaragua was first considered for the canal instead of Panama? Revisiting that is definitely an option.
Nicaragua even tried to get China to build a canal in 2013, so they're definitely still willing.

The U.S. could build a canal along the I-40 corridor from the Atlantic to the Pacific and,
1) it would safer and more efficient than anything built by Mexico
2) completed before Mexico's canal.
3) have much less piracy and environmental troubles.

It’ll be built nice and quick but fall apart from cheap materials within a year or two.

YouTube link
The YouTube link is posted in comments on the Twitter feed, but I wanted to post it here. Pretty interesting video and lots of information on “near shoring” that was interesting.

I've seen construction crews in Mexico. One person is digging with a shovel. The other 5 guys are sitting 30 feet away taking a break.
Sounds like ... a construction crew.

Did you know that Mexico is building a competitor to the Panama canal?
Cartels need new ways to funnel drugs.

I wonder where the illegal emigrant crossing will be.

Nicaragua has the best chance to build a superior canal there at the lake Managua pass.
We should help do it before China makes their move.

Unless the cartels are funding this project for their own snuggling interests, I don't see where the money would come from? For an endeavor of this scale?

So, if a Mexican worker falls into the water; would that make him a…ummmmm, never mind.

Had it not been for a postage stamp issued in 1900 showing a smoking volcano in Lake Nicaragua, the US may well have chosen Nicaragua as the route.

$7.5 billion seems incredibly cheap. That can't be right.
