I sure he made the assumption that Z and NATO were ready to stop the killing. But apparently that assumption is wrong. They love the killing.
How could he be that gullible after Z helped to aid the "impeachment" when Trump rightfully pointed out that this Ukraine shite was just a front to launder money from the MIC to DC.
Now this scheme has cost American's billions more...while those who voted to impeach got wealthier.

Did Biden believe he was going to cure cancer?
There’s plenty to criticize the Administration for.
This isn’t one of them.

But it is time for a reality check
for the MAGA crowd. Trump sucked up to Putin hardcore. It got him nothing with regards to ending the war.
Unnecessarily siding with Putin at every opportunity, thinking that it would get him some clout.
Personally, it seems that he has received favorable financial deals in Russia.
But diplomatically, he got nothing. Maybe even lost some of his clout for showing he would back down.
And now Russia has publicly just called Trump out for having “emotional overload”.

Everyone knows Trump exaggerates.
How many of his voters actually believe it tho?

It wasn't the empty campaign promise that bothered me. As you point out, we're used to that.
I was just disappointed that Trump didn't pull the trigger on ending American aid to Ukraine as soon as it was clear that Zelenskyy wasn't going to take the deal.
That's what most of us voted for...I was just wondering what changed Trump's mind. Is it more complicated than he thought?

Maybe?
I didn’t. You would need both sides to come to a deal and it’s not like their reluctance would have been solved in one night.
But since it isn’t really going that well the next move should just back away and let Ukraine and Europe handle it.

Ukraine went from a cold to hot civil war, with many in the East choosing to go with Nationalist Russia over the Globalist Muh Democracy (corrupt Obama Dem Party) version. Biden then fanned the flames within 6 months and baited Putin to jump in. Trump had cards to play against Putin in his first administration but once Russia paid the price in blood to advance their territorial demand lines those ‘we will back Ukraine’ cards became worthless. Zelensky, the corrupt Dems and RINOS (Hunter and Romney prime examples) along with the EU globalists now will torch what is left of the Ukrainian citizenry to cover their tracks and for their supposed Muh Democracy Globalism. Trump is essentially powerless as money and support to the Zelensky version of Ukraine is support to the Globalist Dems and EU. The Dems simply mock Trump’s “day one” electoral boast in order to discredit him, but he knows Ukraine is a lost cause and has washed his hands of it. Jihadist Iran vs the Jewish State is the big fish to fry now. And dealing with a Debt death spiral economy here. With the Dem Deep State pushing for collapse he’ll be damn lucky to avert calamity here.

No, but he knew MAGA would believe it.

Yes. The billionaire was surprised that a war had many compounding variables. You should sign up to advise him.

Did Trump ever believe he could stop Ukraine War on Day One?
Now "day 1" was obviously hyperbole, but I do believe he though he could do it in a matter of weeks.
I think he was calculating 3 things that, together, would allow that; he misread all 3:
1. Ukraine was in the process of losing the will to fight and the security guarantee based on economic partnership (minerals) they would jump on immediately.
2. Putin was looking for a way out instead of him relying on the exact opposite which was being calculated- Putin is fine with a 7-12 yr. war of attrition. And so are the people around him.
3. The threat of the withdrawal of aid would force Ukraine's hand when a deal was on the table if #1 failed. But with #2 being miscalculated, this would guarantee a Russian victory, eventually.

Easy.
The President executes the will of the American people. A majority of the American people actually wanted American involvement in Ukraine to end, IMMEDIATELY. That was a major reason we replaced a Globalist with the Nationalist, Trump.
That would have been easy: "Zelenskyy, there's no path to victory for Ukraine. You have to concede the territory already gained by the Russians or lose all American support immediately."
That moment has passed. The Globalists prevailed.

It was extremely stupid to say he would end it before he took office.
Ehh…his die hard supporters ate it up and believed it. Politicians say shite like that when campaigning, the zombie base of their voting bloc actually believe it. Kind of like when Biden said in debates in 2020 that oil companies were recklessly tearing through national parks and forests and he would end them drilling on federal lands if elected.

I believe he thinks he can end it. I don’t think he actually meant day one.

Russia, nor Ukraine, wants to end this war.....plus there ae dozens of Ukraine pumpers in DC that want to send more cash to Mr Z, if that happens, this will be a war forever.

Trump hasn't made any further progress on this than Biden did which is what makes this so funny.
Its past time to just let Europe handle it. Russia is not our problem just like the Middle East isn't our problem either it is Israel's problem.

I doubt he thought he could actually end it on Day One, but the statement sounded strong and he knew it would appeal to his MAGA acolytes…
Trump has said a lot of things that don’t withstand close scrutiny.
