They didn't account for room and board, food, and clothing. That should be deducted from the total.

If my math is right that is $14.17/hour…in the 1800s

Jesuit university isn’t it? They’ll probably try to make it happen.

If anybody goes back far enough they'll find some injustice done to an ancestor. My however many greats grandfather had his land taken from him in the 1700s. I'll take Montana thanks

I don't understand why they think they are legitimately entitled to something they had no part in doing and haven't endured any suffering or injustices

Yet Whites who enjoy generational wealth & land ownership off the backs of Slaves & displaced Native Americans have certainly benifitted . Many given hundreds of millions of acres of land through the Homestead Act & other schemes.

Close it down. I find it funny how decedents who never provided slave labor wants repayment for said slave labor.

So, let's say they get what they are asking for...does this mean that the descendants of the slave owners can demand reparations for food, clothes and housing?

Just asking, what you think?

Slaves. They were slaves.

"Enslaved" is as linguistically retarded as saying "THE Ohio State University."

"Slave" dehumanizes the individuals who were kidnapped from their homelands to become property in this country. Referring to people who were enslaved as "enslaved people/enslaved individuals" acknowledges that they were actually human beings who treated horrifically.

Why does this bother you?

ETA: A main reason Reconstruction failed is because poor whites couldn't tolerate the idea of being equal to formerly enslaved people. Poor whites wanted to feel like they weren't the bottom of society. They wanted to feel better than black people. Looks like things haven't changed much since Reconstruction.

You realize that no one wanted to live as a slave, right?

Why get so worked up? If it makes you feel better to call them slaves, go for it. I explained why the verbiage matters to the wordsmith who uses terms like "linguistically retarded."

Maybe you should try to find someone to enslave you. Then you can get luxuries like some food and clothes, maybe.
