Dropped Boeing LH to go with Airbus....

Boeing takes another one on the chin.

And while this is bad, as far as the pilots going, isn’t there and impending pilot shortage in the next few years? So in that regard, does this help that situation in a screwed up way?

Really? Giving some unhealthy old fart another couple years is worth many thousands of pilots, mechanics, flight attendants and many more people losing their jobs, their careers, and not being able to provide for their family? There will be no jobs available to these people, and Delta is just the first. It will be hundreds of thousands of people. This stay at home crap is not going to reduce the number of people who die from Covid, it is just going to change the date that they die from it.

A friend of mine (no pics) is a Delta flight attendant. What makes this news even worse is she and nearly 50% of Delta employees took 1 month of unpaid leave to help the company stay afloat. Hopefully if there are layoffs, Delta will target those who didn't try to help them with self-imposed furloughs.

That is what happens when you have a flight attendant's union. Whenever there are cutbacks, the young hot flight attendants get laid off and the hags with seniority remain.

If it saved only one life it was worth it.

The wacko environmentalist left LOVES when a plan comes together. The future is poorer, less mobile, less dynamic and less free.

Welcome to the New Age. The age of Thunberg.

I think the US Air Force should buy a couple of those 777s and refurbish them to serve as Air Force Two for the Vice President, First Lady and some cabinet members.

Not a bad idea, though I'm not sure I would have Boeing do the retrofits (right now everything they touch turns to manure).

Also NASA flies an old DC-8 and could upgrade on the cheap. As does Samaritan's Purse. Though they may need to look at retired combi freighters (especially the latter since they fly personnel with the shipments).

Well if this happens and United furloughs a couple thousand pilots like they have hinted, I’m out of aviation. I’ve only got 13 years left until mandatory retirement and I’m not staying with my regional with no chance of making it to a major or low cost carrier (LCC). I got back into aviation last year because of a booming pilot market and impending pilot shortage.

Looks like that is over.

What a dumb group of sheep we are. Destroy our selves so we can't get sick for 10 days (if that). Tighten up the nursing homes, preach til you drop to old folks in bad health. Plus black people explaining why they are more vulnerable because of skin color (the Vitamin D thing), and obesity/hypertension and keep on trucking. I've been impressed as to how most people are acting responsibly. I've noticed tons of overweight black women out walking. Great! Except for the over the top idiots, both businesses and customers, who just want to "do something" to make it appear as if they are on top of it. Shoot people with a temp checker and charge them more at this time. And get your butt back to work and living.

All this is coming to a head in about 3 to 6 months when all the unemployment insurance plays out. That's why gun dealers are doing record business. And then there are the emotional zero's who are frightened out of their wits yet strangely very excited about all this. Feeling a new birth of self importance. It's a damn virus folks and unless you are dying already (and yeah the ridiculously fat pigs among us are dying) the odds are extremely slim it will effect you much except for some days off.

Hints At Laying Off 7K Pilots, Massive Number Of Flight Attendant

I suspect a lot of 50 plus year old pilots and flight attendants are going to be early retired. Delta will go through these age-related early retirement incentives before having to cut back on the younger workforce. But given those are union jobs perhaps they will have protections. We are going to either end up with a bunch of young flight attendants or all older experienced flight attendants. Maybe the same with pilots.
