Today's death rate is climbing. Up to 52 now...with the day not done. That exceeds yesterday's 44 deaths.

Do we know how long it's taking for tests in NOLA to be processed and receive results. I've heard some places are taking as long as 5 days
If that's the case, we won't have "recoveries" for another 2 weeks if we need 2 negative tests

More Americans died of the common flu yesterday and today than did the Wuhan Flu. Deaths and cases will likely peak next week. After that, we're over the hill and on our way back to normalcy.

Came here to ask the question when we expect the social distancing measures to begin to reflect in the data.
Is that the general consensus? About 1 more week? Then are we expecting a plateau, or decrease?

I have no idea and until we see a decline in the daily growth rates, I don't think we'll know how long this is going to last.
At this point any pronouncements of 1 week (or any timeframe) are premature.

Where are you getting the deaths for flu from? I would love to have that data to track alongside the Chinese virus data.

Oh for sure. I’m just looking for when we might see our efforts move the data off its current trend.
Just because the exponential growth flattens doesn’t mean we can return to normal.
One of two things must happen before things go back to normal:
~40% of the population must have immunity, or you’ve done trace investigations and youre able to effectively quarantine those who were exposed (you have control of the outbreak).
Neither of those are likely to happen within the next week.

Can you imagine if we tracked every virus and disease like we track this Chinese Virus?
People would be in habitual panic.

Chrome, please bare with me.
1). What is the difference between the first two charts? Title is the same but logarithmic is added
2). Can you better explain cfr?
3). When asymptomatic people get tested, why will that raise mortality as opposed to decrease?
4). I still don’t understand why it is said that millions will die. Are models that skewed??
I’m so bad at this crap but truly would like to understand.
Your time is much appreciated.

They revised the numbers (shifted them to tomorrow) at the last second on Worldometer.
4530 new cases
58 new deaths
That just means we start the “new day” with 540 new cases and 9 new deaths “in the first hour.”

Am I the only one who thinks Sean Payton testing positive is great news?
If Sean Payton and several NBA players tested positive, it surely means that a very large number of Americans have this thing by now. And that begs the question: where are the fatalities?
I know I am jumping the gun, but I can't be the only one thinking this.

How can they just shift numbers? To freak people the hell out tomorrow when they wake up?

You aren't.
It's gotta be waaaaaay more widespread if all these famous people are popping up w/ it, and you're right, where are all the fatalities if the actual number of infected individuals is magnitudes higher than what we know now?

It won’t make a difference in the long run.

Tiger, I will answer your questions to the best of my ability.
1). The vertical scale in the first chart represents an even progression of the scale...ie it goes up evenly for example 2, 4, 6, 8, +2 every increment. The second chart is based on a logarithmic scale which increases the progression as the numbers increase. For example 2, 4, 7, 11. The 1st does a good job of comparing one day to the next while the logarithmic one does a better job of showing the real trend.
2). My limited understanding of CFR is that it is calculated by taking total deaths / total cases. It is a very straightforward metric.
3). You thought on this is correct. It would make the mortality rate go down, which is what we are seeing in the numbers.
4) We don’t really know this virus yet, everything from how it spreads to how it kills or doesn’t kill is all hypothesis at this point. Look at the rate of growth in the cases and deaths and think about where those numbers will be in two to three weeks if we don’t slow it down. That’s why people say it could kill millions.
I am not a scientist, I know nothing more than what I have read. It is so hard to separate the real from the fake these days that I would take anything I say with a HUGE grain of salt.

Thanks a bunch. Wish I was science/critical thinking minded. I’ve got add when it comes to research and charts and graphs. I just want an explanation with words.
Thanks again. I look forward to your posts.

It takes all kinds of us to make the world hum. I am sure you know a shite ton more about more things than I do. Thank you for the kind words.
