I’ve never heard anyone articulate with such precision the motivation and attitude of the ruling class like this guy. If every conservative, or even anybody who truly loves this country would read this book, this country would be a much different place.

He might be the greatest economic, political and social thinker in American history. Yet never is he mentioned during black history month nor in any conversation I’ve ever heard of about influential black Americans by anyone on the left.

Don't stop reading him. I've digested probably 13 or 14.

We homeschool and if our space was bigger I'd hang a picture of him on the wall.

I don't always agree but I can appreciate how much thought he's put into his writings.

Eta. His book Basic economics and his chapter on the real history of slavery from Black Rednecks and White Liberals" should be in every high school.

He’s a helluva guy, and someone I’ve admired for about 40 years, but “greatest economic, political and social thinker in American history” is over the top. Alexander Hamilton, for example?

Sowell single-handedly turn me from a borderline socialist to a right winger.

Now I'm in ancap, but Sowell got me on the road to asking the right questions and understanding why the "unconstrained" view of society is nuts.

I don’t know the mind of Hamilton well enough to make a well reasoned argument, but the fact that there is a broadway play name after him and he has become a cult darling of the left makes me disagree with you on a surface level.

The left would never, at any point in history, make a play about Tom Sowell.

Knowledge and Decisions made me a better thinker. That’s not saying much, but no other author did so much with so little.

Pick up any book of his. You’re going to get crystal clear reasoning, supported by evidence, written in a way that changes your goddamn life.

Braintrust behind the fed. No thanks. Not saying he didn’t have other brilliant ideas but Fed is one of the worst inventions in US history.

without a Broadway play, you’d barely know who he is. the only positive thing he ever did was helping create the conditions for the federal government to absorb states revolutionary debt.

which of course, laid the groundwork for the federal reserve. which doubly fricked us. insofacto, we’d be better off today if he had kept his faggy arse in the Caribbean

eta-Washington could’ve opened his own letters in camp. don’t you dare come back with war hero bullshite

Agreed.

I would describe him as one of the most-effective POPULAR and ACCESSIBLE political thinkers of the generation.

That is a damned silly metric for determining who is the “greatest economic, political and social thinker in American history.”

Anyone who was unfamiliar with Hamilton prior to a stupid Broadway production is simply too damned stupid and uninformed to be taken seriously.

It’s actually my metric for determining which of the two choices presented is the greater thinker.
