I would settle for Desantis being POTUS and Trump being VP and Trump would be in charge of border security and sending mean tweets.

I disagree, but even if I liked the potential outcome, it's a major risk.
Desantis can't be #2 on a ticket with Trump. It provides no real benefit and has major risk. Trump is a love/hate candidate and there is no reason to taint Desantis by giving him a low-value role where he could plausibly come away from it completely unelectable due to some wildcard shite Trump did.

I agree with all of this. DeSantis will only hurt himself if he doesn’t go for it now. I think others like Mike Pompeo and Nikki Haley are feeling the same thing.
