So FEMA is supposed to stockpile millions of them while you spend money on becoming a sanctuary city and fight the President on everything?

please answer the question Mr. Cuomo

Serious question: Is it true that if you go on a vent with this mess your chances are slim anyway?

Amazing hearing a Democrat proclaiming the value of every life....even those who are old and going to die anyway. “You pick who dies!”.....I’m curious, will have to research his opinion on abortion.
Fantastic point.

If there were 30k people in NY who needed ventilators don’t you think every media outlet in the country would be in full melt down mode. I’m calling BS.

From all that I've read from these boards, yes but take that for what it is worth. Anytime you put an older person on a vent it's risky. So if you put them on and can't get them off then you have the family decision to pull the plug AND it's one less vent for a new serious case.
SO many issues with this. I keep telling my parents that if my grandmother (98) isn't a DNR they need to make her one now before she ends up on a vent. She's in a nursing home.

I just posted this on another thread. Holds true here too...PPE and malaria drugs more important right now than vents....
quote:
Here is the crux of why everyone is insane....non-medical people trying to understand medical things....only a very small portion of all cases are serious cases, and and even smaller portion will end up on a vent. Not all of the 40k cases need a vent.
There are 46k cases in the WHOLE friggin County and 563 deaths....this IS NOT overwhelming anything unless it goes exponentially worse and that will be evident in the next few days....even China did not see numbers that were worse than H1N1...everyone needs to calm down.
Remember there were 61 million H1N1 cases with 20k deaths mostly from pneumonia and the system functioned while Obama played golf

FEMA says, 'we're sending 400 ventilators.' Really? What am I going to do with 400 ventilators, when I need 30,000?"
Cuomo asked asked at a news conference. "You pick the 26,000 people who are going to die because you only sent 400 ventilators," Cuomo added.
Hmm... Engage New York math at its finest.
Also, there are only 25,000 cases in NY and as we know a very small percent require ventilators. Where are all these going to go?

This is the issue with this virus.
To be fair he is assuming facts not yet in existence.
They placed the city on lock down less than two weeks ago and it's about two weeks till we see effects from that point.
If infections don't slow they are going to have issues. He has reason to be concerned.
Better hope that hcq decreases the risk for vents substantially...

Depends on a lot of things really...Old people with a lot of comorbidities are going to have issues and they are kind of the top population for being vented with this thing. It also depends on how sick you get and how long you need the vent for support. Every day you have that tube down your throat increases your chance of mortality.
If this thing affects people's lungs long term, people may need to be trached since they may not be able to get off the vent for support and need long term weaning.
Anyone over 60 should be having a discussion with their family about whether or not they want to be intubated and also if they want to be trached if they can't come of a vent. I work in a Medical ICU and this is something I see families struggle with daily.

President just said Cuomo had the opportunity to buy 16K ventilators in 2015 at a great price but didn’t.

New York has a high population density and makes a metric shite ton of money via extremely high tax rates.
Why weren't they better prepared?

They have about 25k total cases. This frick wants to hoard 30k ventilators? So who is trying to pick who lives and who dies fredo sr?
Posted on 3/24/20 at 12:36 pm to Covingtontiger77
there's 12,000 people globally that are in serious condition today, but NY needs 30,000 ventilators.

And yet, almost a month and a half ago...

"We went through this before: Zika virus, Ebola, et cetera. But let's have some connection to the reality of the situation," he said. "Catching the flu right now is a much greater risk than anything that has anything to do with coronavirus."
