Breitbart

On August 28, 2022, Breitbart News noted Gabby Giffords’ gun control group was urging major credit companies to flag gun and ammo purchases via a new sales categorization.

Giffords posted a tweet which said, “The shooters in at least 5 mass shootings have stockpiled guns & ammo using credit cards and killed 145 people. Visa, Mastercard, and American Express have the power to flag suspicious purchases and save lives. Call on them to act.”

Democrat New York lawmakers were urging major credit card companies to create a new firearms-specific category code which would in effect flag gun purchases in the state and around the country.

On September 7, 2022, Breitbart News pointed out NY Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) was urging Visa, American Express, and Mastercard to take action and “do their part” for gun control.

On September 10, 2022, the Associated Press explained Visa will be recategorizing gun purchases and other “sales at gun shops.”

The AP noted, “[This] a major win for gun control advocates who say it will help better track suspicious surges of gun sales that could be a prelude to a mass shooting.”

Until now, gun and ammo purchases have shown up under a broad category, like sporting goods.

But Visa’s move to comply with Democrat and gun control group demands means such purchases will have a distinct firearm-related moniker, making them easier to flag.

The NRA commented on Visa’s decision to recategorize gun purchases:

The ISO’s decision to create a firearm specific code is nothing more than a capitulation to anti-gun politicians and activists bent on eroding the rights of law-abiding Americans one transaction at a time.

This is not about tracking or prevention or any virtuous motivation – it’s about creating a national registry of gun owners.

It’s going to scare the shite out of them when they finally realize how many of us are armed.

Cash is king. If they outlaw that, crypto.

Agreed. I wouldn’t consider myself a huge “gun nut” (I mean this as a term of endearment) and even I had 7 or 8 guns before the boat accident.

What about a bank issued debit card? My debit card is a Mastercard, do they do the same with that or only their credit cards?

My local gun store accepts my checks anyways. Normally they won’t accept checks , but I know the owner well and he knows I’m good for it

This certainly won’t spiral out of control into even more invasive surveillance of the ruling party’s political opponents

Not a chance. Zero. Nada.

It’s like they don’t realize there’s an easy way around it.

Did discover say they wouldn't? Would be a good move but they are a bit woke so would be interesting if not.

I've been wondering if it would be Visa or the companies that issue the cards that have this data. I've thinking about getting one of those Coign cards, but if Visa is going to do this then it's pointless.

They are looking to heavily restrict cash usage, which coincides with the last two years since Covid went in and “national bank shortages” (bullshite).

As the Obama administration has shown, any business which falls into certain groups will have its ability to bank heavily restricted because banks will be threatened with FDIC being pulled if they work with certain people (legal pot farmers, gun stores, people who put money into cryptocurrency, etc).

Would think that these CV companies would have to send their customers a notice saying they are going to flag purchases specifically for govt tracking.
