I just made 30 “Texas Roadhouse” rolls with $3.50 worth of ingredients. That’s not an exaggeration. 3 cups of flour, an egg, half a stick of butter, 1.25 cup of milk, and a pack of yeast. Those can be frozen and used later. A can of 6 croissants is probably $3.50. Learn how to cook.

Truth. When I was kid spending the night at my cousins' one weekend, my aunt loaded us up in the car so they could go to the National Guard Armory and pick up the block of government cheese, peanut butter and whoever else they handed out, and I was positively MORTIFIED, just at being there.
Wasn't for me. My parents both worked. I was embarrassed for them.

I was working as a chemical engineer for a large company, yet had no problem shopping for bent cans, crushed boxes type foods at Suda Salvage surplus food market on Jefferson Hwy just upriver from the Huey Bridge. Razing three young ons and saving for a house, you watched your change.
