re: Confirmed: Illegals are being kicked off Medicaid

I've been out of the loop for awhile now but I'm seeing a lot of news saying 11 million are losing their medicaid. Is that an admission there are 11 million (or more) illegals living in the US getting free health care? Some places I've read people are shitting themselves about their parents losing their health coverage. Not illegals, but their health coverage.

It's bad enough that a lot of Medicaid receptients are just free-loading, lazy bums, but to actually put illegal aliens on it??!!! That's just insane. There is no logical reason a non-citizen should be getting ANY taxpayer funded assistance! For fricks sake, kick all of their kids out of schools too! It's just daycare for the parents and we are having to hire a bunch of ESL teachers! Now that I think about it, Trump's next thing should be to make English our national language.

In theory you're right. But ERs are legally required to provide care regardless of ability to pay. They have to get reimbursed in some way. I'm more than open to kicking illegals off medicaid but that's a real issue that has to be addressed first.

I do wonder about this, and this is why they all need to be deported home. We cant continue this.

From a federal standpoint, they only qualify for emergency medicaid, such as labor and delivery and legitimate medical crisis. Federal emergency medicaid won't be cut and this represents less than 1% of total medicaid costs.

Federal law requires hospitals to provide emergency care to all patients, regardless of immigration status, under the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA). Emergency Medicaid reimburses hospitals for these services.

Regular medicaid is funded by individual states and subsidized by the Federal Government. Some states allow illegals access to state medicaid programs. The government is talking about decreasing federal matching funds from 90% to 80% for those states that continue this practice. Only 14 or 15 states do this.

Well the reduction for those states will be made up some how, some way. Be that wholesale medicaid cuts, higher taxes, and/or higher provider rates that will ultimately result in higher commercial premiums.

All of this is a nice enough symbolic gesture I suppose but doesn't really amount to much more than that.

The cost of caring for uninsured patients would probably be passed on in increased cost of services to all patients
