Yeah well with those stats you could get into a lot of good universities and not have to go to a JUCO. However, if they went to a JUCO they would save a lot of money for a year or 2

I honestly do not believe this anymore. Pretty smart yes, but not the very top students.

The following is from Florida State, which back in my day would accept you if you had a pulse:

2023 admitted student profile:

GPA: 4.3-4.6
SAT: 1340-1440
ACT: 29-33

The reality is that there are A LOT of smart kids applying to schools these days.

This is really pathetic. This can't be true.
If so you see why rich people and celebs were paying off staff to get their kids in.
How is it any better or more moral to deny admissions to stellar students who have worked hard and gone over and beyond, and then admit mediocre students?

Start marking minority on the application. It worked for the Native American Senator from Mass.

Agree. While this is not typical, I admit, my daughter went to OU. She has a six figure job waiting.

When you understand that DEI is the new religion it's not surprising at all.

Five years from now:

Degrees from Berkeley, Stanford and USC are now being treated like HBCUs by serious employers. Reeeeeee!

I agree. In fact, one of my kids attended FSU and recently graduated. He was a NMF, had a 35 ACT, was in the top 4% of his HS class (4.6 GPA), and had many other honors/activities. And that's my point. I'll take a high achieving FSU or similar state school grad over an Ivy league grad these days, because I can be more confident the FSU grad got there on merit.

And there is some truth to that, however, take a look at Harvard:

GPA: 4.2-4.6
SAT: 1460-1580 (1520 is the avg)

They aren't accepting a bunch of dummies. Do kids with those stats not get there on merit as well? The problem is they receive somewhere around 50K applicants for roughly 2000 spots. At FSU, 75K students applied for roughly 10K spots.

Certainly not a bunch of dummies, lol. And I am not comparing the average FSU grad with the average Ivy grad. But the students in the honors college at FSU (or UGA or many other schools) are every bit as qualified as most Ivy students. The FSU honors students just could not afford the Ivy price tag or did not have a diversity hook. I am not impressed with an Ivy diploma, standing alone, over diplomas from many other schools.

Maybe she can train to be a plumber or electrician. They are real men's jobs and in demand and she can seek parity with men. To hell with the over-rated college experience.

You would think they would step aside for a person of color anyway, if they weren't hypocrites.

I have a 15 year old granddaughter who's an academic rock star, good thing she's part Hispanic.

Going to Junior College will be the best decision. Why pay 100k to take English Lit I type courses. If she went for 2 years she would probably have zero to little debt with the same education.

That's not the issue for employers, the issue is that they're accepting a few relative dummies, and they're not going to flunk anybody out. So if you're hiring, you've got to be concerned about why the kid you're interviewing has that diploma. Maybe she got in on merit, maybe she checked a really juicy DEI intersectionality column.

Sounds like she expected a meritocracy, but got equity instead.

This score range is well over what is listed as around average or middle 50th percentile on a number of other sites.

USNWR says half of the admitted applicants are 1180 to 1340.

I believe it. They prioritized native students over all else about 5 years ago. It’s their way of atoning for the “stolen” land Stanford’s campus resides on
