Cohen said today that there was never any retainer agreement. Trump may have said that in public, but that was never agreed upon.
Also, he was referencing all of the payments, not just the one. The ones that came from his personal bank account were signed by him. The checks that came from his trust were signed by Junior or the finance guy

The Trump Org listed in their financial documents that the payments were for "Legal work". That was a lie, which Cohen acknowledged today.
