The “deep state” is in a deep state of desperation. With little time left before the Justice Department inspector general’s report becomes public, and with special counsel Robert Mueller having failed to bring down Donald Trump after a year of trying, they know a reckoning is coming.

At this point, there is little doubt that the highest echelons of the FBI and the Justice Department broke their own rules to end the Hillary Clinton “matter,” but we can expect the inspector general to document what was done or, more pointedly, not done. It is hard to see how a year-long investigation of this won’t come down hard on former FBI Director James Comey and perhaps even former Attorney General Loretta Lynch, who definitely wasn’t playing mahjong in a secret “no aides allowed” meeting with former President Clinton on a Phoenix airport tarmac.

With this report on the way and congressional investigators beginning to zero in on the lack of hard, verified evidence for starting the Trump probe, current and former intelligence and Justice Department officials are dumping everything they can think of to save their reputations.

But it is backfiring. They started by telling the story of Alexander Downer, an Australian diplomat, as having remembered a bar conversation with George Papadopoulos, a foreign policy adviser to the Trump campaign. But how did the FBI know they should talk to him? That’s left out of their narrative. Downer’s signature appears on a $25 million contribution to the Clinton Foundation. You don’t need much imagination to figure that he was close with Clinton Foundation operatives who relayed information to the State Department, which then called the FBI to complete the loop. This wasn’t intelligence. It was likely opposition research from the start.

In no way would a fourth-hand report from a Maltese professor justify wholesale targeting of four or five members of the Trump campaign. It took Christopher Steele, with his funding concealed through false campaign filings, to be incredibly successful at creating a vast echo chamber around his unverified, fanciful dossier, bouncing it back and forth between the press and the FBI so it appeared that there were multiple sources all coming to the same conclusion.

Stopping Mueller isn’t about one president or one party. It’s about all presidents and all parties. It’s about cleaning out and reforming the deep state so that our intelligence operations are never used against opposing campaigns without the firmest of evidence. It’s about letting people work for campaigns and administrations without needing legal defense funds. It’s about relying on our elections to decide our differences.

Penn is an idiot. From his article:

Australian ambassador to the U.S. Joe Hockey told the FBI about the meeting between Papadopoulos and Downer.

That is representative of the accuracy of Penn's article.

Do you know what a counterintelligence operation is?

From the FBI's website:

quote:

As the country’s lead counterintelligence agency, the FBI is responsible for detecting and lawfully countering actions of foreign intelligence services and organizations that employ human and technical means to gather information about the U.S. that adversely affects our national interests.

Do you think the FBI should have ignored the Trump campaign's contacts with Russia?

How many campaigns do you think in history have had "contact" with foreign governments? I would bet ALL of them. How many have had FBI co-intel investigations, with wiretaps and spies, opened on them? This is the first (as far as is known).

So, yes, they should have "ignored" these "contacts" of which they've never shown even HAPPENED. Who were the Russian contacts? Veselnitskaya, a lawyer who had been working in the U.S. for YEARS? (and with FusionGPS).

Do you understand this is not what that was?

You are being a hypocrite. If you had an ounce of integrity you would be asking why they went to the lengths they did in this.

Let me explain. Obama's Foreign Adviser, 2008, left the USA in Oct (less than a month prior to the election) for RUSSIA. There he met with leaders of Russia and Oligarchs. Now that's not speculation. He lied about. Then he came back and stated he did.

Where was that investigation? That man was the mind behind the Russian reset that ended up given Crimea to Putin.

How many more contacts of democrats with Russians would you like for me to name?

Now don't hit and run like you always do. Let's get to the actual heart of the matter. This isn't Russia. This is a desire to rid the country of a man the people elected because what the nation decided was to do a 180 in our march to communism.

You are a jackass who has no clue. The best you have to offer in response is an emoji. Are you in high school?

Page was recruited as a Russian spy in 2013. The FBI had been surveilling him since then for his continuing activities in Russia.

On July 7 and 8, 2016, now a member of the Trump campaign, Page gave a speech at the World Trade Center in Moscow. The next day, he gave the commencement address at the New Economic School in Moscow, criticizing U.S. policy toward Russia as too harsh.

You think the FBI should have ignored that?

You fricking fake embarrassment of a "moderate"...... contacts with russians IS NOT GROUNDS TO INVESTIGATE BECAUSE IT IS NOT REMOTELY ILLEGAL.

EDUCATE YOURSELF ON JUST HOW STRICT THE RULES ARE TO OPEN A COUNTER INTEL INVESTIGATION.

Under federal law, to establish that an American is acting as an agent of a foreign power, the government must show that the American is purposefully engaging in clandestine activities on behalf of a foreign power, and that it is probable that these activities violate federal criminal law. (See FISA, Title 50, U.S. Code, Section 1801(b)(2),

You are really being a hypocrite right now. There is no other word that best describes it. This is not about good of country for you, this is all about you still not accepting that the USA rejected the path that the DNC was marching it towards.

Absolutely....because it is not remotely illegal to travel to and give talks in other nations.

Dude.....are you fricking kidding me right now? You are actually arguing that TRAVELING TO A FOREIGN NATION is grounds for the gov't to dispatch surveillance against you. That is a gross abuse of power.

IMHO, there will be a strong chilling effect on anyone bold enough to consider working for any future GOP POTUS campaign. Why take the risk when you might have to spend away your family's financial security on legal fees arising out of Democrat LawFare.

Why don't you just be honest and post you don't have anything to say about Page's obvious and overt actions, and that instead of posting something relevant, you are going to post some trite B.S. to try to cover that up.
