Rain is becoming more frequent in Greenland and accelerating the melting of its ice, a new study has found.

Scientists say they're "surprised" to discover rain falling even during the long Arctic winter.

The massive Greenland ice-sheet is being watched closely because it holds a huge store of frozen water.

And if all of that ice melted, the sea level would rise by seven metres, threatening coastal population centres around the world.

For those that don't know 7 meters is 23 feet.

The mean sea level elevation at my house is 25 feet. If it doesn't stop raining in Greenland my house will be 2 feet from being flooded.

This is super scary.

What if it rains in Greenland and freezes in Antarctica?

We already have a seal/sea lion problem on the west coast.

question the math here, not saying it is wrong, but the numbers dont make since

area of ocean: 361,900,000 square miles
area of Greenland: 836,300 square miles

ratio of area of ocean to Greenland: 433:1

so for every 433' of ice thickness in greenland that melts, the ocean will rise 1'. So for the ocean to rise 23 feet, nearly 10,000 feet of ice (nearly 2 miles high) would need to melt.....

For those who know if you leave a glass full of ice water and all the ice melts the glass doesn't overflow...

Then it's a good thing it's cold there and they don't get FL type rain
