the problem with China is they made workers in developed countries compete with basically slave labor. You can debate how we should have handled that and whether our workers did or didnt deserve protections from it but there's no question China tanked wages for low skilled workers all around the world, especially in developed countries.
I concede that China used forced labor (and still does to some degree), but production jobs were being outsourced to Japan, Taiwan, and Mexico for 20 years before any significant number of them started going to China in the late-70s.
For some reason people can understand this when it has to do with the minimum wage debate, but can't fathom it on a larger scale.
When you artificially mandate the minimum wage be $25 an hour, unemployment goes up, jobs decrease, and specifically the lowest segment of the labor market is cut out. The people who should be occupying those jobs (teenagers, college students, etc.) can't find employment. That's who those jobs are for.
It's the same thing with unskilled production jobs. The fact that they have to do with production is incidental...they are just like fry cook jobs, except that they can be outsourced to countries that are not as economically developed, whereas the service jobs can't.
It's a win-win. The average Chinese factory worker makes $6 an hour vs $17 an hour in the US. But the Chinese worker lives better on $6 an hour in their economy than the $17 an hour worker in our economy, and everyone pays less for the product. Those people in developing countries are who those jobs are for just like teenagers or retired people are who jobs bagging groceries at the Kroger are for.
The problem is that we had a 30 or 40 year period of time in this country during which manufacturing labor played "boil the bullfrog." Give us this, raise us that, the union says frick you, we're going to strike, give us more, etc., etc., etc. and the finally called their bluff and outsourced.
Populists for some reason feel entitled to have manufacturing jobs that paid artificially inflated wages while completely ignoring that they were, in fact, vastly artificially inflated.
They also greatly overestimate how many jobs we'd be talking about if we got all manufacturing back here and they underestimate what it would do to prices if we did.
Anyway, all of that is to say that China did not "tank" wages for unskilled labor. Labor artificially raised wages with their unions and management normalized it by outsourcing it.

If the answer is no then the follow up question is…why?
If they were dumb enough to implement the policies that got them here, maybe they are dumb enough to not understand the ramifications?
Also, perhaps they see this as a purge of their poorest populations.

Well, they are ramping up the Taiwan pressure. Maybe they realize that if they want it, they’re gonna have to do it sooner rather than later.

Maybe Trump can work out a "Deal" to send our illegal population, as well as Leftist politicians, to China.

He’s a groyper who has been convinced by podcasters that Israel and their 10 million population is a greater threat than China.

I find it hard to believe there would be such a steady decline for 75 years. That seems to not account for changes that could occur. Simply, the reproducation rate could increase over time for a variety of reason. Ask Kazakhstan. LINK

There’s a few theories I’ve got on why they don’t care about the demographics. I don’t know the answer but here’s what I’ve got.
Number 1.
They know the numbers are BS. Whether it’s old numbers or current numbers.
Number 2.
They see community and ethnic identity as a bigger priority than long term economic success.
Number 3.
They see AI as being a job replacement in many markets and thus no longer need the population.
Number 4.
They don’t need immigration because they have an outsized population of military aged males and they can go out and take replacement population of their choosing.

It is asinine to me that these people thought you could pull on the threads of society in such a personal way as mandating child birth numbers without realizing there would be a hell of a price to pay. It's not unlike us importing millions of people who don't share our values. The rent eventually comes due.

The one-child policy only ended in 2016, despite evidence for decades that it was going to cause major issues. It was replaced by a two-child policy. That changed to a three-child policy in 2021.
Later in 2021, that removed all limits, and now incentivize child birth.
So, you tell me.

I think they already have inflated population numbers. Communist lie, apparently.
If they instituted a successful "one child policy" in 1980 when their population was at 980 million, how did they somehow grow it to 1.5 times that.
Seems impossible
