I hope he starts by revoking the licenses of network owned TV stations (O&Os)

As relevant here, Big Tech’s prized liability shield—Section 230—only applies to “good faith” actions.
My letter goes to Big Tech’s continued reliance on NewsGuard given its track record.
For one, reports indicate that NewsGuard has consistently rated official propaganda from the CCP as more credible than American publications.
For another, NewsGuard aggressively fact checked and penalized websites that reported on the COVID-19 lab leak theory.
For still another, the Small Business Committee and multiple Media Research Center studies identified numerous instances where NewsGuard apparently does not apply its own ratings in an even-handed manner. The list goes on.

You can’t make it up. NewsGuard says it provides apolitical guidance on "misinformation.”
Yet one of its own Advisory Board members signed the infamous Oct 2020 former intel officials letter falsely suggesting that the Hunter Biden laptop story was Russian disinformation.

Yep, and the named offenders are an extension of the Democrat Party.

Next, require all 'journalists' to be licensed; Those who report the news should be restricted to facts (or penalized). They should given the time honored protections to criminal & civil prosecution....but their work must be declared open and broadly.
Everyone else are labeled 'opinion' writers/personalities... you are just 'a man on the street' with a bullhorn. And should be afforded none of the above and the disclaimer on the chyron which reads 'This is my opinion only...'.

An absurdist post I made years ago posted as a legitimate suggestion, unironically

Great! I’m so freaking tired of the attempts to gaslight and skew reality!

Not necessarily leftist. Authoritarian-right regimes have made similar federal expansions. This one isn't as clear until more details of the plan/goals are announced.

In the very least, if the knowingly lie on the air or in print, it is either wire fraud or mail fraud. If several acts of fraud occur the media CEO is charged under RICO!!

Authoritarianism comes in different forms.

Authoritarianism is bad, regardless of which part of the political compass we find it.

Umm, fighting for less censorship is less power and control overall though. I know you are going to focus on "federal government" with blinders on but there are two things happening here:
1. Federal government in coordination with Big Tech to censor people.
2. Federal government telling Big Tech to back off the censorship and thusly preserving liberty.
This new FCC Chairman is focusing on 2.

Well if we want to be known as a civilized nation certain steps have to be taken, otherwise we could end up like Mexico some day.

Just give me the power to fight this and I promise I'll give it up when I'm done
That never happens.
And this is the very broadest way to define "censorship". They're playing fast and loose with words and trying to turn private companies into public actors.

No. The regulation is the most important part. I'm no leftist supporting more government regulation of private businesses and trying to make all private companies into public entities.
The federal part just was emphasized b/c this board, up until a week ago, was very anti-fedgov. Now they love some fedgov expansion.

2. Federal government telling Big Tech to back off the censorship and thusly preserving liberty.
Only one of these options seems to involve actual threats from fedgov. That's the difference.

The only option that seems to involve threats by fedgov
