Caroline Wren just told Bannon that Landry could redraw for a 5-1. Why not 6-0?

5-1 is easy.

6-0 depends on splitting NO and BR in ways that may actually allow a non-minority Dem to win under the right circumstances.

It could be done, but New Orleans is going to end up with it's own district regardless and I don't think anyone is just going to let the map be drawn for 6-0. It's just easier this way.

ETA: aren't there 7 now?

he could.

he won't.

they comprise a big chunk of votes and he does not want the implication.

as it is, the race hucksters are going to be screaming "raysiss"

5-1 makes 5 safe republican districts and 1 safe democrat district.

6-0 makes 3 safe republican districts and 3 districts that lean republican, but where a democrat has a chance in the right race.

Serious question: what would a congressional district composed of Orleans and Jefferson look like?

I agree, but Orleans Parish is losing population and the Baton Rouge surrounding area is growing with conservatives.

It would just be nice to get rid of all the race baiters once and for all. The Democrat party in Louisiana would die on the vine.

Having New Orleans represented as the 1 is fine. Less migration to the suburbs and diluted voting strength. Plus as the song goes - When levee breaks (I) they’ll have no place to stay

Read the opinion.

Start disenfranchising 35% or more of the population to ensure it has no representation in Congress and you will be losing in court .

You want to explain disenfranchising the 40% plus republicans in CA and the NE who have been disenfranchised for a decade plus in congress who live in blue states?

Nope. Louisiana lost a rep after the 2010 or 2020 census.

Will probably lose another after 2040.

News Flawh; the La D party is dying on the vine.
As a %, whites are leaving the party in droves annually and this just didn’t start. Leach & Bernhard were its primary benefactors but neither can help the party from Hell now.

What about the over 40% of whites, Hispanics, etc...that live in the "AA" districts
