That might help put an end to professional students. Is that what you mean??

Maybe this will cause colleges, including medical schools, to lower their tuition rates.

Your years of residency and fellowship count towards these 10 years. A medical school degree from any US medical school is extremely valuable. It can be traded for a lot in this country and around the globe. I’ve even had a friend who had her entire loans paid off because she served in an area badly damaged after a hurricane. The hospital paid them off in exchange for a 4 year contract.

Then they pay you sub par wages for that time, then you're fifty and still at starting pay. Living wage? I made $32k, $34k, and then $36k for 80 to 100 hour weeks and full 3 day weekends with no sleep. Things are easier now, but we were paid less than minimum wage for our time while generating hundreds of thousands of dollars/year in revenue.

Wonder if Trump started something like University of America for certain professions like doctors that had a reasonable tuition would work?

I dunno... something has to give. We need doctors and the current setup isn't favorable to addressing that need.

What they’re not going to do is just cut costs by 60% overnight.

You have to work within the system to make slow gradual change. Right?

Sure. They'll just stop taking students instead. That's the more likely scenario.

It actually is. Yet you sound sarcastic. What about it are you doubting?

My wife’s parents took out a HELOC to get her through medical school. We paid it back. frick off with this nonsense. If a person wants a o be a doctor then they will find a way to pay the cost.

Too many medical schools and not enough residencies. And as someone who works at a medical school, too many med students who have no business going into medicine.

Capping loans is a great start to curbing ridiculous tuition

This is an inflation problem not an academic problem. This is saying houses cost too much so you have to put 70% down

No, this is a supply and demand problem caused by government interference.

Government increased the supply of students by making school loans easily available to anyone. Schools reacted to this increase in the supply of students by raising tuition.

The proof of this is the record number of students, with worthless degrees and a mountain of school debt, seeking to have their school loans canceled.

The building boom at Texas A&M, and probably many other schools, since Barry began the school loan-a-palooza is an incredible sight to see.

Also can we say giving 300k plus in private loans is just a worse solution?

Why? Private loans to physicians are generally cheaper than federal loans. And Sofi will gladly provide MD/DO students with as much money as they want. Same reason virtually every mortgage lender offers jumbo home loans to physicians with 0-5% down and no PMI. Default rates are around 1%. You’re a moron.

Every hear of these things called banks? I'm sure they can take up the slack. Besides, the federal government shouldn't be in the student loan business in the first place.

You have to make the job more enjoyable. Fewer and fewer quality students want to deal with all the bullshite for ever decreasing pay. When I say we haven't had a raise in twenty years, I'm not bullshitting. It's not just about the money either, insurers have smothered us with busy work to get every medicine, test, scan approved, we spend as much time doing paper/computer work as we do seeing pt's. It's a crock of shite. I don't even care anymore. We are seeing the end stages of Obamacare.

Are you saying that poorer individuals aren’t getting any relief on tuition costs?
