Unfortunately these people will never realize how lucky they are that the United States is the global hegemon. If it were China, Russia, or some muslim state, they'd all be permanently fricked. They're acting like petulant children and it's entirely appropriate that Trump treats them this way.

I travelled to Vancouver, BC, a few years ago. There is a HUGE Asian population there.

Carney also seems to be forgetting how Chinese people f'd their real estate market because Canada made it a safe haven for wealthy Chinese people to get their money out of China. Many of those houses still sit vacant, while the Canadian rental situation is worse than in NYC

They’re going to be in for a shock when we don’t let them.

What's the tariff we would have to pay if we import Chinese cars manufactured in Canada?

When Canada decided to go “elbows up” and boycott American products like whiskey, I decided to boycott them.
I always check national origin of things I purchase to avoid China whenever possible. Now I add Canada.
Know what? The only Canadian product I purchased regularly purchased was Brunswick canned fish. Now I buy from Alaska, Poland, N Africa, and SE Asia.
I wish I could go more elbows up!

Why would Canada trade with the most powerful economy in the world? This is really your question? You are so dumb, its legitimately frustrating to observe

This is what happens when you jack up tariffs on countries, they go look for other nations to trade with.
For some reason this administration seems to want to run everybody off and remove the dollar as the world's reserve currency.

Why would Canada seek arrangements with the U.S.? Trump is irrational. No one can rely on what he says. Ask the Iranian protesters Trump said he would protect.
Do you think Trump/the US should get into a kinetic confrontation with the Iranian regime? If you do then you are at odds with a lot of the MinneSomalia protestors, some are carrying signs that say the US should stay out of Iran's bidness.

No one is arguing this. We are however, free to call it stupid and petty because their politicians got their feelings hurt

So prices in China are far lower, and shipping costs far higher.
Canada has refused to invest in new technology, they have high taxes.
It wont work without massive job losses.
This is like getting a face tattoo and a meth addiction after a breakup, it might make you feel good for a spiteful minute... but there will be consequences.

We asked for this. The faux outrage toward Canada makes no sense.

We start randomly and aggressively attacking our allies and they seek alternatives. I don't get the outrage, either.
Did people think they would just take it? Why?

Asking for fair trade deals is random and aggressive?

Canada loves and is full throttle towards “CCP-styled” capitalism.
Lots of western nation elites decided they really admired that “free market concept” with an authoritarian twist as a model.
We have plenty of politicians here in the U.S. who admire it too.

We are finding out we never had allies, we had dependents.

We literally pushed canada into the arms of China. Did the same with Russia.

Even with your framing, it's not the goal, it's how we went about it.
There is a cost for being overly aggressive and acting outside the norms.
