In the Six Day War, Israel captured East Jerusalem. So, I suppose you could consider it "occupied territory".

Without using the world "annexation", Israel essentially annexed East Jerusalem in 1980.

Now, we are basically giving our blessing to this annexation. However, many people support the Palestinian claim to East Jerusalem as part of their own state.

Muslims want to push Jews into the sea, and Jerusalem is further from the coast than Tel Aviv.

Can't trigger the muzzies, bruh.

They might drive box trucks into crowds of innocent people or fly planes into buildings.

Jerusalem has been Israel's "claimed" capital for a while. Their governmental buildings are there.

But because of a lot of autistic screeching from Muslims in Palestine it hasn't been officially recognized by the UN.

Which ultimately doesn't really matter since Israel's government buildings are all there anyway...

Tel Aviv wasn't the capital but was a major tech hub and "global city." You can think of Tel Aviv as the New Orleans of Israel, compared to Jerusalem as its Baton Rouge.

The "problem" if you will is that there are stateless Muslims living in Jerusalem who want to pretend that Jerusalem is part of their made-up country, and as we all know, major multinational orgs like the UN love to pander to Muslims.

Well, Sarah had Abraham send her slave Hagar and Abraham's son with Hagar (Ishmael) away a long, long time ago...

Probably because some will think your comment of

quote:

I suppose you could consider it "occupied territory

would mean you sympathize with Palestinians.

In my opinion, if we consider all lands that were obtained during war as "occupied territory", then pretty much every country is guilty of holding occupied territory.

Here's another fact: there is no such thing as the Palestinian people. They are an invented concept, an invented people. They are arabs who wandered west.

Don’t you hate autocorrect sometimes.
No.
Quick Wikipedia search:
quote:

Tel Aviv was the temporary government center of the State of Israel until the government moved to Jerusalem in December 1949. Due to the international dispute over the status of Jerusalem, most embassies remained in or near Tel Aviv.

Every single part of the Earth has changed hands by force multiple times over.

The concept of what country "rightfully" owns what is complete bullshite.

The rightful owner is whoever can take it and hold it.

I suppose I'll have to make my objectivity more plain next time.

I agree.

To cut through all the bullshite for you, it's important to Israel because it solidifies the objective fact that it's legitimately part of Israel. The Palestinians want to contest this as loudly as possible, and to make Israel appear as illegitimate as possible. The International Community has long been hostile to Israel and propped up the idea that the imaginary State of Palestine is legitimate. There has been a decades-long "two-State" solution proposed which has failed time and time again, because keeping the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as hot as possible is in the best interest of so many bad International actors. Recognizing Jerusalem as the capitol of Israel is just an acknowledgment of the facts on the ground, but also pops the balloon of those who want the conflict to rage forevermore.

Israel , for it's part, has moved on to forging geopolitical agreements with their Sunni neighbors (Saudi) . The Palestinians, remain the most wretched people in the region, getting it from all sides, because it is in the best interest of so many to use it as a wedge for anti-Western/Anti-Israeli Agitprop. So the dream of "Palestine" continues to evade them.

FTR, there actually is a Palestinian State and/or Homeland. We call it Jordan. But that's another shite storm conversation entirely.

why do you fail to mention that the captured it in the six days war from Jordan, who only held it because they captured it in 1948 when all the surrounding areas countries attacked Israel the second they declared the state?
