Why so they can funnel the money back to the Democrat party?

Yeah, so the Marxist dream of "tax on a tax" will be realized.

You do realize it would make more sense for them to just get a loan right?

The solution for liberals is always to take money from someone else's pocket. It's never to scale back on programs. We couldn't just stop paying for needles to give free to drug addicts or something like that.

You do realize that billionaires can afford to live anywhere, right?

Everyone does this now with property taxes.

It’s probably closer to 30%.

California has a top marginal state tax rate of 13%. And a 1% tax on all income over $1M. And an 8.8% sales tax.

These dumb asses think people are going to stay in state and pay $50,000,000 for the right to be there? That's beyond nuts.

I really, really, really hope they do it.

This is federalism. Cut the money coming from the federal pocketbook, and if your state wants to still prioritize the program, tax your state residents for it.

This is the surest way in the world for Democrat's tax policies to become very unpopular, very quickly, and the people who disagree with that will be the only ones dealing with the results, so I don't care.

This is the way.

Selling those properties might be a little difficult.

Unless they’re not taxing foreign owners.

California’s wealthiest residents could face a one-time 5% tax on their net worth under a new proposal aimed at replacing billions of dollars in federal funding cuts to healthcare.

So, California politicians have fricked up the economy beyond repair and their solution is to tax all the billionaires 5% of their net worth?

If they already haven't, i'd assume most billionaires will be exiting California as their home residence.

So why not do Irrevocable Blind Trusts and reduce your net worth to less than a billion dollars? Voila!
