Why should Griner get any special treatment from our state department? She broke the law of a foreign country! How arrogant we would be to expect them to let her crime slide?
I'll bet Griner and the WNBA bitches don't think the U.S. is such a bad country now, huH?

Perhaps Russia’s harsh drug law sentence and lack of catering to her status as a gay, black, celebrity athlete will give her a whole new appreciation of the rights and freedoms afforded to her in America where she claims she was so oppressed.

Two worldly truths that I know of right now.

1. If you're an American, don't take drugs into Russia.

2. If you're not a Democrat, don't protest in DC.

I struggle with who to believe. Obviously not a Greiner fan personally but

Do I trust the US gov that says she was wrongfully detained?

or the Russian gov who has been known to lie and happened to get her for this as war was breaking out.

I just dont know who to believe, and honestly I dont care what someones stance is on our justice system, I dont wish 14 years for a minor crime on anyone

Going to another country? Do not break their laws.

That's what he told his lawyers, but he pled guilty to "large-scale cannabis smuggling," which apparently has a meaning in Russian law.

quote:

Local authorities have not commented on the amount of drugs Fogel was carrying, but Russian law defines a "large amount" of marijuana to be at least 100g.

If he truly only had 17g, he probably shouldn't have pled guilty to having more than 100g. Maybe he got bad advice?

Exactly.

Anyone who's ever worked with Russians could tell you that.

This administration (really a regime per Buck Sexton) is pathetic.

This goes for Eastern Europeans in general. When it comes to negotiation, they expect you to play the game, but an attempt at blatant strong-arming will get you nothing but escalated threats in return. And they have much more will to backup threats than their western counterparts.

This goes for family matters as well. Dealing with the side of my family from Eastern Europe is like a never ending game of chess.

I have a deal for Putin.

We give them the arms dealer we have. They give us Fogel and that other executive they have. And they get to keep Griner.

Nobody in Griner's family has denied she uses. If it was totally fake they'd be screaming loud and often.

Bookmark this for posterity: Within a few years (allowing time for her huge book, movie, and endorsement deals) of Russia releasing her she'll be publically campaigning against the oppressive environment in the U.S. against gay and trans people. She'll also back through private donations socialist/big government candidates for office.

Sure, I mean ive smoked weed, but never in another country.

I just dont know who to trust is all I am saying, and if people are being honest here, they don't either.

some are happy because of her politics and that imo is a bit sad. These same people will say that politics shouldnt divide us, etc etc. I think we all have plenty of people in our lives that we are damn good friends with that have politics very different from you (a face probably pops into all of your heads). I hope they figure out a fair and just solution. 14 years is harsh as hell.

We need to launch rescue missions for these guys. Anyone who sides with authoritarian big government Russia is not a small-government conservative/libertarian American.

Putin needs to be exterminated.

I wouldn't say I'm happy, but the irony of a woman who for years campaigned against racism and police brutality and for gay rights getting arrested in a homophobic police state is pretty thick.

14 years is harsh as hell.

That's kind of the point, though, isn't it? We have such a myopic view of things that we think the western world politics are all there is. There's still only like 6 countries worldwide that have legalized recreational weed use. Only around 30 of 200 countries worldwide have legalized gay marriage. What we consider a harsh punishment is commonplace for a good portion of the civilized world.

It's a matter of perspective.
