Instagram came out with a platform called "Reels" to complete with TikTok. That'll probably take off if TikTok is banned.

It's funny to watch liberals get quiet as a mouse when platforms like Facebook, Google, and Twitter silence american conservative voices only to get all huffy about State looking into Communist Chinese propaganda tools.

This take is extra salty considering how butt hurt liberals got about so-called Russian interference on social media. We tried to unseat a duly elected president over six figures in Russian Facebook ads, but simply looking into a site run by communists actively meddling in American politics, and used by 10s of millions of Americans, is too much for you?

Democrats and their mindless minions are very fond of Red China and admire the Power and Control that the China Communist Party exercises over the masses.

Dems hope to use Red China as a model for how they themselves will govern the USA, once Dems can consolidate sufficient power to do so.

Til Tok has more conservative, minority conservative and Trump fandom than all other social media combined, just FYI.

It wouldn't matter if it was 100% conservative. It's still being used to spy on Americans and collect data for china to use against the United States.

Anyone who uses tik tok is a fricking idiot and a bad American.

What data is it collecting? And how is it being used to benefit China? And how is it different than they info that Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Google collect?

Everything they can get access to -- your picture gallery, contact list, texts, biometrics (fingerprints and facial data), location, and so on. They recently got caught stealing clipboard information and pictures and sending it back to china.

It's pretty much the same as these, but these companies are not directly run by the chinese fricking communist party like tik tok is.

They track everything.
Lawfare

American firms collect data for consumer marketing purposes (some don't like this either), but with TikTok, the data is being used by the Chinese government, which is considered by many to be a security risk. It's already banned on government employee devices for this reason.

I agree. We should ABSOLUTELY "ban" EVERYTHING that we do not like.

Hang on. Who gets to make these "banning" decisions? Do I really want those people making my entertainment decisions for me? Orwell is an entertaining read, but I don't particularly want to LIVE in his dystopia.

Maybe the FedGov should just PUBLISH the uses that China is making of this data, and let the frickING AMERICAN PUBLIC make its OWN decisions.

Nah, that's just crazy talk.

^when a commie willfully ignores the Chinese elephant in the room that TicToc is a propaganda and spying tool of the ChiComs and instead tries to falsely paint this as a "we don't like this app" initiative

you commies are the worst and are a danger to our nation

It won't stop people from using it

a simple vpn would get around the ban to still use the app

much like people in china do to use FB and YouTube

The Republican Party: The party of government overreach and censorship.

We need another option.

I don't think this has actually been reported to be true

Another good point. While I think it more likely that an American company will develop something similar to tiktok (before 12 year olds start trying to figure out vpn), it's good to point out that Facebook, Google, Twitter, YouTube and many others are all banned in China.

LINK

They dont want any American influence over their citizens and they are terrified of these firms sharing data with the us government.

Freedom of choice is overrated and we should be banning more than just tiktok. An American made app can fill the void up after tiktock is banned.

Less globalism
