If he does this then it’s bad for trump. Garland wouldn’t do this if he wasn’t damn sure that they got what they wanted and it’s serious af.
Conversely, if trump knew that they didn’t find what they wanted, he would have yelled it from the top of the highest social media platform on the internets.

When the Clintons left the WH, they took a bunch of stuff (like $200k) that they believed to have been personal gifts, and they provided a highly-detailed list of every item. Some watchdog group saw the list and asserted that some of the stuff did not constitute personal gifts, but rather gifts to the American people (the White House). The Clinton's promptly returned ALL of those items, apparently without contesting any of these assertions.

Bill declassified that furniture before they left. Before it went to the White House it was in Roswell, NM and now it has good home in Chappaqua.

Though the DoJ requested the sealing initially and has now requested unsealing, the DoJ cannot either "seal" or "unseal" unilaterally. That must be done by the judge.
The judge COULD theoretically sua sponte rule to keep it sealed, but that would be unusual (as Oates said). It is also possible that someone could intervene in the proceeding and attempt to keep it sealed. For instance, Trump MIGHT do this, though I don't know WHY he might want to do so.

Hey, have you been able to find any sort of detailed accounting and inventory for all the documents Obama took from his presidency, for which you were chiding Trump over for daring to try to compare to his situation?

Doesn't matter. That power resides solely with the judge that put the seal order in place. I'm sure he'll unseal it but Garland can't just do it himself.
