Anecdotal but my state is almost 5 years into recreational weed and life has gone on as normal. The only overtly noticeable differences are that the shops are open and the police are more aggressively targeting stoned drivers. What are your concerns? Not to say you shouldn't have any, I'm just curious what they are.

I'm convinced. We should encourage otherwise healthy potheads to smoke some dank buds all day.

Yeah I start getting shakes too whenever I don't get my weed.

Just legalize it already!

The point is we need to watch what happens rather than rush a MAJOR A change across the country.
I reject the premise that it is a major change.

It could become federally legal tomorrow, and the only difference would be every town has a pot shop and MAYBE a minuscule increase in nationwide use, along with a likely decrease in use amongst minors.

My position on the WoD has always been the same.

Legalize weed and cocaine. Decriminalize the harder drugs.

Portugal decriminalized everything and so far the results have been completely positive as they're treating it as what it should be, a public health issue, not a criminal issue.

In regards to weed you may be right. But as things are, we are a society that can choose to ease into it rather than dive head first, because it IS illegal at the moment. We have that luxury. I think people handle things better when things happen more slowly. I think we would both agree if, theoretically, it had a huge negative impact on us then we would have wished we had gone about it more pragmatically.

I have no disagreement that everyone should have full right to put into their own bodies what they wish at their own discretion (legal adults that is.) I just think that humans are just a smart glorified animal. Doing stuff overnight seems risky.

We made alcohol legal again in less than a year with the 21st amendment and there was no issues with implementation amongst the states.

My best friend of 25 years is a grower for a huge grow in Oregon and has lived and learned his trade with a biology degree from UA and years of growth experience... And I used to love weed. (Makes me paranoid now. I try it once a blue moon and still camt figure out why I don't dig it anymore. Sucks) Anyway i realize thay doesn't qualify me to answer your question except to set me apart from a judgemental crowd you may think I belong to. I assure you, I don't judge a pothead at all. Used to be a big one. Wish I still liked it big time...

I don't know the studies to date in regards to the respective states regarding the downsides. What i DO know is cause and effect like any of you do.

Maybe hundreds of millions of tax revenue would come to the states. That's a hell of a sales pitch. I hear similar sales pitches to casinos. How much good they will do for schools and such. I also know that if it's legalized and distributed and sold, no question that the number of people smoking a new intoxicating substance goes far higher. It turns out, being illegal does reduce the number of smokers.

If I am being honest, I can't tell you what I think could happen that would be "bad," but i am afraid of what I don't know could happen.

So to answer your question I really don't have specific concerns. It's what could happen that I can't calculate that bothers me. I'm a fan of easy does it. 5 years isn't exactly a long time when it comes to economics, human psychology and potential societal impacts.

I would likely sound hypocritical if I fully responded to the semantics behind WHY I believe it worked. In short, I believe alcohol is an affect that humans benefit from more than they do weed. Not as an advocate from a physiological standpoint of weed vs beer, but from a psychological one. I guess I sorta think there is a stronger argument that alcohol has helped save the human race more than weed. I dont have the time to defend that position before I go to sleep, but suffice it to quote the inaccurate quotes by Benjamin Franklin, "Beer is proof God loves us and wants us to be happy."

In reality, I'm fine with humans having both vices made legal at some point. Certainly at least let the states decide for themselves as they have begun to.

As someone whos 58 year old dad just recently got diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and has probably only a few months to live, this is something I've been really looking into. I've heard of people being cured from cancer by canabis oil, but I don't know how true they are but might as well give it a try. And as a conservative, weed should be legalized nationwide. I've smoked quite a bit and have always felt this way.

Yup. For me it's not even a safety issue. It has everything to do with freedom. Let people be free as long as they don't harm others. I don't want the government picking and choosing what is or isnt safe for the individual. People should decide that on their own.

The withdrawals from weed are horrible. I shake uncontrollably, have cold sweats, and vomit constantly.
Only dumbasses think people get addicted to weed.

That's the problem. We shouldn't let idiots do drugs. If you have an IQ over 100, then should be free to do all the drugs you want. If you're not smart enough to do a drug the first time with someone you trust, then you are just asking for trouble. If you're smart about your drug use, then everything is cool.

Just like the guy that does LSD and thinks he can fly so he jumps out a window. Try from the ground first, moron. You don't see ducks lining up to take an elevator to fly south for the winter. (The Great Bill Hicks)

So does bacon, but it's still legal. And all the people addicted to the caffeine in their coffee but are still against marijuana. You can't have a free country if you want to tell people what they can & can't put in their bodies. It's not illegal to drink antifreeze even though there are no positive effects from it. If you don't like doing it, then fine, but that doesn't give you the right to tell other people that they can't do it.

You people still whining for medicinal marijuana to be illegal when it has been proven to help with seizures multiple times are cold-blooded, heartless bastards.

No. We want to get high and watch Netflix. Maybe watch a band, have a few beers, and take an Uber home. That, and not risk losing our jobs over something we do off the clock that doesn't harm anyone else.
