One of my partners is, with his son, involved in scouting. In fact, he just left my office after asking me what I knew about the filing (which was basically this page, LoL).
He told his son to complete his eagle scout badge asap.
Other "issues" or "facts": 1. They have sued all of their insurance carriers who are refusing to pay claims. 2. Part of the bankruptcy, as I understand it, is to put money into a "pot" to be used to settle all the claims.
He told me they recently leveraged and borrowed against all the land given to them by the owner of Phillips Petroleum, like $400 mil to help pay for the diddling.
So...I do not know any of this to be actual truth but I know my partner and he would not tell me something that could not be backed up. If something here is not true, please let me know.

At the same time the Boy Scouts too the position in court that they were a private club and that made them exempt from discrimination laws, and they could discriminate on any basis they wanted, especially excluding anyone who was not a member of a Christian religion. Look it up.
As a former scout the stand was offensive to me. Scouting was never about discrimination. It was about citizenship and good morals and character. The organization lost its way. Not because of liberalism, because it was hijacked by evangelicals and child molesters.

Individual Councils and Units fund themselves and this is all about the National Organization having to pay possibly millions in settlements.
This thread isn’t about the bankruptcy. It’s about the left celebrating the bankruptcy after Boy Scouts did all they could to bow down to them.

It was the Philmont Reservation and that move stirred up a hornets nest as there is a dispute to their ability to that based on the terms of how the land was granted.
The BSA has a lot of assets and this move will protect them from being bled to death. They basically doubled the membership fees this year to 60.00 per scout and adult volunteers is 39.00.
As long as the activists leave the Scouts alone we'll be fine. The regional councils and the Boy Scout Troops withing those councils are not affected by the Lawsuit. They are independent of the National BSA.
With that said, as an Assistant Scout Master with a son that's a Life Scout (one below Eagle), I too want to get him finished just in case. But I do think the BSA will endure.

My friend said that they upped the dues. Thought it was interesting to do it before bankruptcy as they probably had that in mind. Also said his local scout websites had zero about the bankruptcy but the main one did.

The BSA sent out a notice that they were "reaching" the possibility of Ch. 11 back in the Summer as I recall. This really wasn't a surprise.
Bloomberg News had a good article about doing this to protect the BSA's assets rather than going broke. Here's is an excerpt:

Former Scoutmaster here. I remember telling my wife when I read the Boy Scouts were taking in the gays that this would be the end of Scouting.
