The house from Friday in the LA ghetto sold for over a million some years back.
Land prices there are fricking nuts and will continue to get worse between rent control stopping apartments and more people moving into the greater LA and San Fran areas.
Friend of mine who moved to Oakland for some ungodly reason was well familiar with the $800k tear down specials out there ($800k for a house which isn’t maintained because it is cheaper to tear the bitch down and rebuild than to do all the deferred maintenance).

Amazes me you nuance words like this to pretend to be smart when you are just an idiot. Example, modern state of Ghana came from the Ashantis who traded in gold, ivory...and something called slaves.
You know, you can get a passport and visit the Elmina Castle like I did where Ghanaians talk about their part in the slave trade and what a regrettable part of their history.

I agree and I think any direct reparation payment is a horrible idea, but keep in mind the civil rights era wasn't that long ago. While there aren't any blacks alive today that knew slaves, there are plenty that were alive back in the day where they faced all kinds of hostility just for existing while black.
But again, I think reparation handouts are an absolutely terrible idea for many different reasons.

Being a slave sucked. Although even that may be a toss-up compared to living in Sub-Saharan Africa (then and now). Same re: descendants of freed slaves through the Jim Crow era.
But current descendants of freed slaves have it absurdly better than they’d be currently in their “homeland.”
