Yep.

She's using HIS fame as a platform, nothing more.

So your daddy doesn't like you. Boo hoo.

Frankly, anyone who'd take this public a dump on their family probably isn't very likeable

That's probably exactly what it is, or at the very least he believes it reflects poorly on him.

Where you and I differ is that I don't see that as an appropriate reason to distance yourself from your child, If your business takes a hit because you have gay child, that speaks to a problem with everyone else, not you.

But, truth be told, their profits are up. The Mobile Press Register and the papers they represent subscriptions are down.
Interestingly, where I live, in Gulf Shores, the local newspapers (Islander/Onlooker/ETC) have increased subscriptions. Weird.....

They've had several rounds of layoffs in recent years. That may have put them into profitability in very recent times but before that the axe was flying.

Small community papers are doing well. They supply news no one else is providing - like how many runs Mary Jane Smitherman scored at the high school softball game. Big market papers are getting crushed.

I'll also say this: the father is even more at fault for cultivating an attitude of an unpardonable sin. Even if one believes that homosexuality is a sin (personally, even as a Christian I think many of the prevailing mores/values regarding sex when it comes to Christians are bunk), there is no sin short of out and out reaction of Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and savior that will keep you from His grace and love. Also, the Lord does not deem one sin to be more grave than another--sin is sin is sin is sin. The idea that this one or that one are akin to crossing the Rubicon is man-made bullshite, and as a Christian I'm tired of the church constructing such artificial boogeymen to rack and stack the body of Christ.

I don't think it's appropriate either.

That doesn't make her public shite on the family carpet OK.

I see nothing wrong with a person not wanting their personal drama being talked about in their business. Especially if it might harm their income.

Newsflash children. Yes. When you become an adult, you get to have your own ideas and points of view. Demanding your parent parrot your ideas or let you use THEIR livelihoods to promote your ideas is just assed up. Period.

No. Your parents aren't bad people for not letting you do this

Where are you getting that her father kept it private?

Not slapping your family in the face with your gayness does not mean you are living a lie and being untrue to yourself.

She wasn't doing this. All she did was tell her step mother that she was in love when asked. Simply telling her dad is not "slapping them across the face with her gayness".

Obviously all Rick cares about is his money and fame. "How dare you compromise my platform" was his response.

How many examples do we, as a society, need before we realize those that thump their Bibles the hardest have the most skeletons to hide.

Did I mention that Rick Burgess is an alcoholic adulterer? What does the Bible say about divorce? Good thing Rick's parents didn't disown him for his sins against his wife

My thoughts exactly. She's about to hit the road speaking at churches that have the gay is ok philosophy. She and Jen Hatmaker will soon be competing for business, and when is say business, I mean the charitable donations of gullible and feckless church goers.

It's not obvious that this is all he cares about.

You are correct that God views no sin differently than another, but living in sin is a more grave situation than just committing a sin. Individual sinful acts done habitually are no longer just a sinful act and should not be treated in the same way. This does not apply only to homosexual sin, but the problem many people have with the church is that they do not understand the difference between "being a sinner" and "living in sin in perpetuity with no desire to repent."

This girl has gone even a step further and decided she can determine what is or is not sin. No matter how anyone wants the Bible to read, the reality is that it is very clear about certain sins. Sexual sin is one of them, and homosexual sin is specifically mentioned a few times as one the forms of sexual sin.

A perfectly reasonable response really. That people don't get this is a measure of self absorption
