Pretty powerful op-ed piece she wrote today.

quote:

I have always believed stories carry healing powers. Bible legends of heroes and outcasts. Fables with neatly packaged morals. That friend at every gathering who lit up the room with fantastical tales, the one who left my sides hurting and my eyes streaming and made me think, "my god this is my life, it is so ridiculous and wonderful." My first memories are of me sitting under my father's radio desk, listening to him talk. Rick Burgess has built an entire career sharing the stories of his life. He has amassed an incredible following, because he speaks his truth. People love him. People hate him. His boldness has always inspired me. As I grew older I became a prominent character in his stories. I was the exuberant softball player whose passion got her thrown out of games, the angsty teen late to church, the young woman in Israel almost traded in marriage for 40 camels. I was a punch line, a glittering prop, a cartoon. Then - in his eyes -- I failed him. Gone were the stories of my boyfriends being taken down "to the hunting room" before first dates. I was erased....

Oh boo hoo. Daddy don't like me being queer. Give me a break.

There are people out there who have been abused by imagined racism! Forget your petty little white girl problems and get with the latest progressive cause!

Eh... softball isn't necessarily a blip on the les-dar.

It ain't field hockey or basketball.

It's not powerful, it's weak and narcissistic.

I know plenty of gays that are very respectful of their parents and grandparents, and I also know plenty who flaunt it all over social media trying to intentionally be shocking and bold.

Not slapping your family in the face with your gayness does not mean you are living a lie and being untrue to yourself.

Not preaching to a national radio audience that homosexuality is a sin that leads to eternal torment and suffering does not mean you aren't a Christian that has faith in God.

It's impressive how bravely she spread her sexuality out there for the entire world to see, so she could embarrass her daddy in attempt to show how wrong his opinions are.

What a moron.

ETA: I will love my daughters regardless, but if they ever tried to embarrass me like this they would not be coming back for Christmas. I can love them from afar.

Homosexual actions are sin whether he says it or not.

Unfortunately this is likely true. A guy who gets up at 3 am to do a morning radio show and hustle appearance fees and self-promotion can't be that involved in kids' lives. I like Rick and his show but this is the cold hard truth.

It must depend on the team.

I worked with one lesbian who played softball at Southeastern but the LSU and HS softball players I know are straight or at least closeted.
