I guarantee you, they see this as some sort of great "gotcha troll" where Biden is going to strut out and make hay about this "ridiculous" request and show everyone he has no earpiece.

I could see them trying to spin it back on Trump if he says that they should consent to earpiece check if they aren't hiding one. They bring up taxes and take same stance that he should show them if there is nothing to hide. That sound bite will be all the media covers and those who are "ridin with Biden" will award him the debate win regardless of the rest of the debate.
