I applaud the president on this one. Circumstances beyond their control economically burden millions of Americans. I hope both parties can put aside their pettiness and support this.

Like you, a progressive, disagree with him on anything.

Y’all ever seen the medical bills from surviving cancer? Some would rather have died than be on the hook for $125,000.
From surviving cancer, no, but I have seen what happens when people in your family die from cancer. I don't know anybody who wouldn't rather have the debt. But I guess it depends on what you have to live for.

This is pretty much what we're against.

Just completed chemotherapy in November, I am a survivor, came with $12,000 of debt. Doable.

This isn’t true.
How so?

The debt can still be collected unless the debtor declares bankruptcy.

No offense but you have garbage insurance, my wife was in cancer treatment for over a year for bone cancer treatment. The radiation alone was over 1 million dollars and the chemotherapy was nearly 100k not to mention the numerous PET and MRI’s. We were out of pocket around 8-10k total over a 13 month period with much of that coming from travel expenses to MD Anderson

On the surface, I agree with this. Say you get sick, get a big hospital bill. You weren’t planning on the bill and you didnt make the choice to purchase something.

Why don’t people go the gym and not eat carbs instead of going into all this medical debt?

My case study for 1st semester clinicals was a rare cancer survivor. Got to know him well. He was a pretty well known architect and his final personal billing was over $1M.
I ran into him the next year in the courtyard of the hospital. He was back because he could not get the bill squared away to literally pay the $1M+.
Here was a patient who was willing and able to pay the high cost for novel therapy. He was so out of the normal that the hospital was screwing up getting paid easily.

Thats why you have insurance.

Many Europeans have medical debt, just not 6 figure debt
Posted on 6/12/24 at 8:01 am to crap4brain
Half the country doesn’t have to pay medical bill, including illegals, so why should I? I don’t necessarily support this, but I don’t mind it either. Of course it’ll probably only work for those that are registered as Democrat

I like this
Medical debts arent counting towards the debt to income anyways but they can destroy your score

Hope you never get injured or get in an accident. A weeks stay at a hospital is more than most annual salaries in my state

What will happen is doctors will go to the same system my Vet has. Pay up front for the completion of treatment.
You want chemo? Your balance is 125k and you need to pay it before we begin.

I don't see how some people are so heartless. If someone has cancer and is too poor for treatment, then frick em right? Why should I help pay for them? Maybe because it also pays for you, your wife, kids, family members, friends, coworkers, etc. We've all seen it happen before. Someone gets sick or in a bad accident and their whole life savings is gone and once the money is gone, the quality of care will drop. Why is this ok to so many people? Does it have to happen to someone you love to take notice or do you think that it could never happen to you? Say what you want but you can't convince me the rest of the world is wrong especially when the average lifespan is longer compared to America, who barely cracked the top 50 at best on the rankings I've seen. Student loans is one thing but I think healthcare is much more important and can't be looked at in the same light.
