Ben Shapiro's plan for fixing SS is for everyone to work until they die

OK so maybe I'm being a little hyperbolic
LINK
Sure...raising the retirement age does make sense from a fiscal perspective. But it's pretty easy for someone who doesn't work a W-2 job to say that the rest of us should just pay into the system our entire working careers and not expect to get anything back from it.
Also seems like the worst timing ever since we have a looming retirement crisis.
The American dream...work all your life until you're too ill to work anymore.

According to lawyer and political commentator Ben Shapiro on an episode of “The Ben Shapiro Show,” it’s “insane” that the U.S. hasn’t raised the official retirement age.
“[President] Joe Biden has technically been eligible for Social Security and Medicare for 16 years, and he wants to continue in office until he is 86, which is 19 years past when you would be eligible for retirement,” Shapiro says.
“Frankly, I think retirement itself is a stupid idea unless you have some sort of health problem,” he says, adding that, once you lose your purpose in life, “things go to hell in a handbasket real quick.”
But aside from that, Shapiro argues that raising the retirement age makes sense on a fiscal level. Is he right?

I know some very successful people who will never retire. They believe if you aren't working then you aren't serving a purpose. While I personally don't agree with that notion, it is not a point without merit.

What does it matter? SS was a scam and still is. People who save well for retirement can do what they want. We shouldn’t be taxed for useless retirement anymore, though. Just figure out who we are going to help {I.e. disabled and poor who paid on) and if there is any left, give it to current taxpayers.

The plan worked for thousands of years. It’s only in the last century that liberals changed it and as always you see how that’s working out.

What office does Shapiro hold?

Social Security can’t be fixed. There was a time in this country when people actually moved their parents in and took care of them when they retired. There was also a time when we had sound money and people could afford to save for retirement.
Social Security is dead broke. There was never a trust fund, it all goes into the general funds to be spent by the Treasury. Adjusting for inflation, people are getting ripped off massively when they collect their checks. And future generations won’t see a penny. It is a tax and nothing more.

When Social Security was passed it was meant to be a social safety net against becoming too old, feeble, or sick to work. Somewhere along the way Americans began to think of it as their retirement plan. With medical technology keeping people alive longer, something is going to have to give. We either have to raise the retirement age or raise taxes.

I have several family members who worked into their 70's and 80's and their health declined rapidly when they finally quit working.

He’s right, once you lose purpose, people lose their minds

The Japanese call it "Ikigai". It doesn't necessarily have to be gainful employment, but a sedentary lifestyle with no purpose in old age will kill you quickly.

No disagreement
It seems Ben's position is you should just deal with the fact that you're being scammed and like it. And like it so much that you'd be willing to be scammed harder.

Ben Shapiro only cares about America to the extent that it benefits him or his people. Apart from that, his allegiance is elsewhere.

A lot of old people work or go back to work out of need or just boredom.
I dont think he is saying anything crazy. Of course, any left leaning person will sky scream about this.
Some people never work and die early.

Yeah my old man stays busier than a lot of employed people and he has been retired for over a decade
I agree that people need purpose
I don't agree that it benefits anyone to pay into a system their entire working life that they're not likely to receive any benefit from

True.
Now if the government would simply quit taking FICA from hard working Americans and cut every taxpayer a check for total FICA paid (including employer match) with a 5-6% compounded earnings annually .....and shut it down.
This ^^^^ is much more sensible than student loan forgiveness.

I will never retire. Not because I can't. Because I don't want to.
