I sure he means retire and do nothing. Most people get a retirement job, consult in their field, or engage in another focus like hobbies, they just do not keep working in the same job 40-50 hours a week.

I’m betting he’s saying this in context of it being arbitrary that we instill the idea of a retirement age in general.

I certainly felt much safer when NOLA was averaging a murder a day and then some during the idyllic days of the late 80s, early 90s. I miss the close to 400 murders a year we used to strive for. I miss the days of people who got the rock over those trying to score smack.

We GenXers had no idea the salad days we were enjoying.

Us baby boomers made it good for your generation. Perhaps too good, and that’s why we are where we are now. Your generation and beyond have squandered the opportunity given to you.

I actually agree with raising the social security retirement age for everyone under 50 to 68. Slowly increasing it. Steadily as life expectancy increases.

It’s either that or it goes insolvent.

Best option would be letting individuals control the funds in the market instead of the government stealing it to fund other programs.

Why?
Why was 65 chosen as the age to receive government benefits when they were instituted?

What did people do before government told us that we worked until around 65?

The whole idea of retirement is that one finally gains enough financial independence for HIMSELF to do whatever the f*ck he wants to do.

When did this idea begin? Surely hundreds of years ago.

Says a man that has never done a hard day's work or started and ran a real business. These Daily Wire wire guys are glorified social media grifters. Good for them on finding a niche and capitalizing on it...but they can get bent for these takes

My brother works for the commercial division of a bank and is 62, good money and good retirement benefits. Before the pandemic he was going to retire at 63 and be done with it. Now he works from home for the most part and says he will do it as long as he can, or as long as they will have him.

I'm 51, work in IT, full time job and a consulting business on the side and work from home as well. I will probably keep working as well.

I guess if you like what you do, it is not really work. Some people want to retire and move to Florida and play golf, others don't find that so appealing. All that being said, not sure what Shapiro's line of though is here, or why he cares.

Probably Ben's worst take of all time. What an out of touch, moronic thing to say. I guess it's easy to say people shouldn't retire when your job is doing a 45 minute to an hour podcast every day repeating the same takes over and over and you're a millionaire.

I believe/hope that you misconstrue his meaning of "retire". Ben probably is referring to a person leaving their present job, and just dropping "off the grid", and not continuing to keep themselves active and relevant in society.

When Social Security was first introduced the average life expectancy at birth was only 58 for men and 62 for women. LINK

I'm with Ben. Man, if I get a rainout, or sit around the house a few days because the weather, I'm bored to tears, and can't wait to get back out and get busy. I'm 62 years old and can't see myself ever completely retiring.

SS is and has been a ponzi scheme since its inception. Sadly, neither party can touch it as they would get massacred in an election with the proposal. The best system would be to privatize the whole thing. Being forced into paying for something I know I won't get sucks.
