What’s wrong with having winners/losers, and different classes? Particularly if a) there’s movement up, down and between classes, and hose at the lowest end of the economic ladder are doing light years better than they’d be doing in any other economic system?

Don't be a milquetoast. Pure capitalism is based on consensual agreement between producer and consumer. It doesn't get any purer than that.
Doesn't mean there aren't cons. Take monopolies as an example.

Or maybe it isn’t compatible with our modern culture?
Don't blame the lazy and those who choose to live a life within a bubble which equates victimhood with nobility for Capitalism not working as well as it should. That's not the fault of Capitalism, it's the fault of the ever-tightening restrictions the bubble-dwellers put on free trade.
Once you strip away the rhetoric and politics, Capitalism is nothing more than two ordinary people being able to freely enter into a transaction and negotiate price between themselves until both feel they are getting a good deal. There's simply no other economic system which is better than that.

No system is perfect. In a Socialist/Communist system, the monopoly is the government.

Thats how life works, and has always worked.
It works best when those who put in the work are rewarded the most, and those who don't do shite are left to their own devices.
Some people in this thread really struggle to understand we do not have a free economy, and the reason it is not free is the reason there's severe stratification.
Govt picks winners and losers in this game of corporatism/technocracy. Do people really think giving government MORE power fixes anything?

creating distinct winners and losers
How does one become a loser in Capitalism?
In a society where an immigrant can go from hand-to-mouth to the richest man on the planet in 30 years, how exactly does "class stratification and warfare" work?

I think the biggest mistake was the point in which the slaves were free and none of them were sent back.

I saw poll that asked:
Do you think that the government should do more to help me, or the government should do more to leave me alone? And for the first time ever, the "need help" people topped the "leave me alone" group and did it by a lot (60-40)

We are a full 2-3 generations removed from a capitalist free enterprise system

You can’t blame capitalism for your obesity just as you can’t blame a speeding ticket on the fact that the car can go faster than the speed limit.
Capitalism is a framework to allow financial freedom . It works for those that can be disciplined. Freedom is a double edged sword afterall.

Capitalism isn’t the problem. Wide open, full-fledged democracy is. This country was never intended to be this democratic. It was a limited Republic at the outset.

Most Americans are averse to critical thinking. They choose the less logical option.
I suppose they hope food rationing and long lines will fix their obesity.

This has existed throughout human history with or without capitalism.
Human beings are not equal and never will be. The option is whether we implement a system that recognizes these differences or a system that artificially tries to manufactures obstacles to it. The former has created the greatest increase in quality of life in human history; the latter has created more death and misery than any other time in human history.

You mean you don't think that the lazy piece of shite on govt assistance who sleeps til noon should have exactly the same success as a guy who wakes up at 4:00 in the morning 6 days a week to bust his arse ?
