Mass shootings started about the same time violent video games and isolated basement kids came into existence. Along with anti bullying and everyone gets a trophy.

These kids don't know what it means to be a man. They don't understand responsibility and hard work. They have been pampered and told it's all some else's fault. Then when things don't go right they retreat into pretend land, buy a gun and kill people because they do not know the value of life.

Thanks Democrats. Maybe we should band them.

These type of games contribute to the dehumanization process and dehumanization is the first step in becoming a murderer.

I guess we better nip every TV show, movie, YouTube clip, AND ON AND ON AND ON that contains any depiction of violence in it in the bud so snowflakes don't have their humanity warped and turn into murderers.

I'm sure democrats constantly pushing abortion, and now infanticide, rights along with their constant demonization of everyone they disagree with, calling them nazis, racists, etc, has no dehumanizing effect. Especially since so many of these shooters are leftists.

I would add to this the loss of verbal communication. I know people who text each other while sitting in the same room. I would blame social media and the lack of father figures over video games or guns.

But I will add that I think people who play video games alot need to take a break and go outside and do something physical. Take a walk\run\hike, go swimming, got o the gym... get some sunshine and fresh air.

I don't think video games are causing people to lose meaning and I don't think they're some kind of catalyst for normal people. But I absolutely think they can be a trigger for an already mentally deranged person though.

I somewhat buy in to this. But other than off hand remarks I dont know that these shooters have these games in common. Do they?

I'm just glad people like first person shooters more than war strategy games like Command and Conquer... we'd have multiple full blown war on our hands.

I think the alienated are drawn to such isolated endeavors, not that the games themselves cause alienation.

To be bluntly honest, this entire thread engages in some serious intellectual dishonesty.

If Obama had said the exact same thing, people on here would be talking about how they should make a mod in (insert first person shooter here) to kill him.

The message should bother you or not bother you based on the message, not the speaker, but yeah...

Did you know Biden spoke out about violent video games too?

Isn't it funny how video games are sold worldwide but somehow America is the only country with these routine mass shootings?

America is far from the only country where mass killings happen

Yeah, and don't forget all those video games they had during the Crusades...

I mean when they were burning witches...

I mean when they were slaughtering Native Americans...

Massacres that occurred before video games:
Asiatic Vespers
Menai massacre
Massacre of Thessaloniki
Massacre of Banu Qurayza
Massacre of the Jews of Granada
St. Brice's Day massacre
Massacre of the Latins
Cyprus massacre
Massacre of St. Bartholomew's Day
Chinese massacre of 1603
Fort Mystic massacre
Yangzhou massacre

Just to name a VERY small number of them.

People don't need a lot of reasons for this to occur.

If this board got to choose television programming, we'd only have Hannity and Last Man Standing reruns.

My thoughts exactly - sane people can have utterly repugnant thoughts and dismiss them as a flight of fantasy.

But some lonely maladjusted mentally incompetent self-loathing need-do-well can become so enraptured by the feeling of power and superiority from slaughtering others in a game situation that a small fraction of them can take that next horrible step.

Remember we are only talking about a very small percentage of mentally deranged people, already an insignificant slice of the population. Taking away a constitutional right from 99.999% of the citizenry just doesn't make any sense.

don’t get why biden and trump got so much flack today for rightfully observing that not only are games getting more realistically brutal, but it often involves players killing humans.

I got downvoted for identical observations yesterday.

If biden said there is moon out tonight right wing people would hem and haw and act as if in disbelief.

I cant explain trump.
Isnt he blameless of all possible implications .

I am still trying to wrap my brain around the concept of adult males playing video games.

Me too - I can see it appealing to the middle school crowd - for a while.

When I was that age we played 'cowboys & indians" with pew-pew-pew, and puhching!!!

I always found it grotesque for example that a COD game included committing a mass shooting at an airport

This 1000 times. I watched my son play this which I think was just a training exercise for learning to move and shoot everything in the game. When I saw this I told him in no uncertain terms that it was fricked up and there are some people in this world who cannot determine civilized behavior after playing something like that. When millions are playing it, there only has to be a couple to cause a big problem.
