quote:

Amazon will receive performance-based direct incentives of $573 million based on the company creating 25,000 jobs with an average wage of over $150,000 in Arlington. This includes a workforce cash grant from the Commonwealth of Virginia of up to $550 million based on $22,000 for each job created over the next 12 years. Amazon will only receive this incentive if it creates the forecasted high-paying jobs. The company will also receive a cash grant from Arlington of $23 million over 15 years based on the incremental growth of the existing local Transient Occupancy Tax, a tax on hotel rooms.

This on top of the state giving them 500 mill

Never let a Virginia Democrat ever claim that Republicans are “in the pocket of big business and special interests” again.

I am failing to see the downside of losing out on these sites.

If you talk to the everyday people who live in Arlington and Queens, you'll probably find that they aren't too thrilled with Amazon moving in.

The replies to DeBlasio's tweet about it are awesome.

Home prices going up would have been the only possible things I can think of.

Traffic, influx of lib voters, higher taxes, not a employer that hires in my field...

I expect boosiebadazz to come in this thread going after Va state leadership. He went after Walker in WI for doing the same thing with Foxcon.

This is the equivalent of stuffing more shite into an already overflowing bag... LMAO...

I know traffic is already terrible in both locales, I wonder if the public transport is going to be able to handle the influx as well...

I don't see where the city of Arlington is raising taxes to pay to Amazon in the quote you posted.

Literally Fascism.

It's funny that these turds are out violently protesting what they think is facism (it isn't) while supporting (to the extent they even know what they support) the marriage of corporations and state via this sort of bullshite right here, comprehensive regulation, entitlements, etc.

History lessons needed.

It is incorrect to say that ridiculous corporate subsidies are a Democratic Party thing. This disease affects all parties. It’s bad policy regardless of who is in office.

Almost 4 billion in wages yearly?

I find an average salary of over 150k very dubious...

Every city does this though. If not Arlington, some other city would have given them the money. Its just how big business works these days.
