Amazon is providing funds for an additional Metro station in Potomac Yards. Also additional funding for another Crystal city metro location.

This is a win for my county!

But it IS an example of corporate welfare, imo.

I am very uncomfortable with deals like this.

We agree there. But sometimes an investment is good for all sides.

It's similar to Planned Parenthood getting billions from the government then donating it to Dem hacks.

We will see how it works out

I would have much preferred the government of va entice amazon by lowering taxes and regulations rather than direct subsidies

Let's see, Amazon was already going to put their HQ east of the MS River... But it is a sound investment to give them tax breaks and other subsidies to do so?

This sounds a lot like how wonderful it is to host the Olympics and shite...

The projections I've seen is that the subsidies are tied to the number of Jobs Amazon actually produces and if they average $150,000 salaries. So if they hit their projections, and get their subsidies, Arlington county will have made $6 for ever $1 they give up.

That's a win win.

The taxpayers are paying for a portion of Amazon’s high paying salaries lol. Where are the democrats on this one? It’s all bullishit. Jeff Bezos has no right to complain about republicans now.

It is incorrect to say that ridiculous corporate subsidies are a Democratic Party thing. This disease affects all parties. It’s bad policy regardless of who is in office.

Republicans do something bad: Republicans are terrible!

Democrats do something bad:Look both parties do this! Republicans do it too!

No shite. Amazon had to be shamed into raising their minimum wage. Senior VP's at Amazon don't even make $200K.

Like I said, if Amazon doesn't meet it's goals, they don't get the subsidies, it's called a contract. You don't have to believe anything, my county just got a major economic boost.

The company will also receive a cash grant from Arlington of $23 million over 15 years based on the incremental growth of the existing local Transient Occupancy Tax, a tax on hotel rooms.

Not really. It's raising taxes of tourists

Once again, if they don't meet the $150k average they don't the associated subsidy. This isn't hard.

It seems like Arlington got a much better deal than NYC, at least from a quick glance at the contracts

At that time it's going to be the threat of moving, your ilk will cave and give them the subsidies.

Yea, I'm not buying that. Crazy if true though.
