Are We In A Pearl Harbor Moment With Russia? Could they Decapitate us?

Serious question. Same scenario is playing out with Russia as did the Japs before they launched Pearl Harbor raid. All was good as we were in “Talks” with The Japs then they surprise attacked us. With Russia possessing Hyper Sonic Missiles that actually work while we do not have hyper sonic missiles that are as competent as the Russians. One may ask, what if Russia takes us out in one swift Hypersonic Nuclear Volley? I don’t think it’s unrealistic. Putin knows he has the upper hand with Missile technology what if he thinks he can end the USA right now?

But can his S-500 missile defense system shoot down our submarine launched ICBM’s? Also if he decapitated our command n control at home/took out our GPS guidance satellites would the subs even be able to lock on?

Russia is surrounded by a nuclear deterrent, 80% of which is mobile and mostly undetectable. By the time the first attempted attack was detected, Moscow, St Petersburg, Minsk, Volgograd, Vladivostok would have barely just enough time to kiss their arse goodbye.

Not even sure what that would mean. But Russia is nowhere close to being capable of neutralizing the US. There’s also MAD to consider, which hypersonic missiles do not change.

This is why we have SSBN's. We have enough SSBN's and warheads at sea at any given time to completely vaporize Russia. They know it. That's why there will never nuke war from one of the big nations.

It is tough to predict what Putin will do. I've read various things that it is remote that Putin will go into Ukraine and that he wouldn't have a lot of support in Russia for it and the financial fall out if he did from Sanctions etc.
But then the other part of me says that he would do it knowing that NATO will do nothing. There is a history there with Georgia and Crimea and the same people running Obama WH is running Joe.

Completely different situation.
We had an oil embargo in place against Japan. It did not have any domestic oil. It’s entire international ideology received around obtaining strategic oil reserves via force. Once we slapped the embargo on them , their warrior code mentality kicked in which meant war was inevitable. They could not give into the embargo without causing shame to themselves, the nation and emperor .
Russia wants to control the flow on gas into Europe and have a land buffer. They don’t NEED those things to survive as Japan NEEDED to oil to survive economically. They aren’t starting a world war over this, but will happily instigate a local flair up if they think we won’t interfere.
