How does an independent cross a party line? There is no viable independent party line to cross.

True. So why would they vote for Trump?
Gun control.

That's going after a fundamental right we've had for many generations, using arbitrary arguments to do so. If/when that right is lost, it's going to stay lost; and you won't be able to change your mind down the road.

And immigration. This shite being pulled right now by the sanctuary cities is only making Trump stronger.

I'm a Republican, and I voted for a few moderate Dems that were running against loons in the last election. The Dems won and actually voted pro-life and pro-2nd, but I'm still looking forward to voting for their challengers this time

i don't know that i'd call myself independent or moderate at all, but i've voted for a number of democrats in local and statewide elections and actively vote for L over Republicans pretty regularly.

i haven't been able to vote for a D since the late 2000s due to some stances that are a bridge too far.

A lot of Texas Republicans make it pretty easy to vote L or to try and Primary them.

I fit that description, but I mostly vote Republican. But there are times when the Republican Candidate is such an idiot or offensive person, that I will vote Democrat. If I lived in Alabama I could never bring myself to vote for Roy Moore.

Because everyone has one or two issues that are the most important things to them. If fiscal issues are most important, you vote Trump. Those for whom social issues are most important vote Democrat. I'm fairly pro choice and pretty much call myself a feminist. I'm perfectly fine with gay marriage and even legalized weed. However, my pocketbook has always been and will always be most important to me. My second most important issue is freedom. That's probably what drives my social views. But I'm always voting for the candidate who wants to tax me the least, spend the least money, and do things that reduce regulations and promote economic growth. Lots of folks are like me. People that are all in with the Bernie Bros don't care about their tax bill...probably because they don't have a very large one at all.

This is my son's issue. No matter what the candidate thinks on anything else, this is the one viewpoint that truly drives his vote.

We forget how complex people actually are. Lots of people have beliefs that are all over the political spectrum. Usually a single or a couple of the issues are the ones that drive their vote.

I am strongly "Right to Life", so notice how many female Democrats would never dream of getting an abortion, and how many female and male Republicans see abortion as a solution to unplanned pregnancies.

This is a funny issue.

Moderates/Independents for the most part , claim to be socially Liberal and fiscally Conservative.

That's laughable , moderates/independents were responsible for Obama.

Obama on the campaign trail said he wanted a national healthcare plan.

There is no way in hell a national healthcare plan is fiscally conservative.

Moderates/Independents views change with wind direction and that's why they are a joke.

I used to be pretty far right. As I've gotten a little older I've found myself more of a moderate on social issues.

I'm still solidly right on fiscal issues. I vote for Republicans though. The modern Democratic party is bat shite insane. The blue dog Dems are a thing of the past.

I was left on some issues, conservative on some. Blue dog democrat would’ve been pretty accurate for the most part. But as the Dems lurch left, I find myself lurching right. I’m not an establishment republican but I’ll never vote for another Democrat. I’ll vote for Trump and after him, who knows.

that's a narrow viewpoint. Like someone posted above, most of us want to pay as little tax as possible and be left alone.

Right now the liberal/left wing is pushing to restrict our rights; the right to own guns is a big one. Leave me alone if I want to own them, I'm not a criminal. Similarly, there are factions that want to attack you for even supporting a candidate (Trump). I mean Antifa, physically attacking people, not just the verbal stuff. Trump is a legit candidate (who actually is in office), so don't you dare come at me and try to intimidate me into not voting/voting another way by force.

I agree about the views on Obamacare, too.

In the past, there have been Republicans who have wanted more laws in place. I tended to vote against them, too.

Yes. I refuse to vote for an extremist on either side. I rarely vote for democrats but if I have to choose between Roy Moore or Doug Jones, I'll be voting for Doug again.

You aren't wrong. But there have been times when Republicans have done the same (Patriot Act), and they will do it again. That is why I swing vote. Right now I'm swinging hard right.

Yeah, I said basically the same.

You have to vote with your brain. No party/side should ever get blind allegiance, that's the surest way for something to slip through the cracks.
