Don't mind the license... Should be used to vote and do other things were verification is necessary. do I think it is a money grab, yes.

I was listening to an expat that lives in Thailand. He was talking about how bad the drivers are in the countries he has been to in Asia. Apparently they aren’t as thorough as far as a driver’s education system.

Inconclusive evidence if it is the driver's ed system that is the culprit here...

I don't think requiring drivers to be licensed is unreasonable

Change out cars with guns…

See how easy that is.

In La. if you are stopped & can't provide the LEO a drivers license, you go straight to jail. On top of a significant fine. And the DMV puts a flag on your name & SS#: any DMV future DMV activity is blocked : no new license plate, no new Inspection sticker, no title transfers, etc etc etc.

I'm not arguing for tests to own guns.

We can all agree that guns are much more dangerous than cars. If mandating a driving test is in the interest of public safety, why wouldn't that interest apply to gun ownership?

Cars and modes of transportation are not distinctly mentioned as rights in either the Constitution, or the Bill of Rights.

Also "much more dangerous" is a loaded question. Suicide by gun pollutes the numbers, with most estimates indicating it's well over 50% of the gun deaths. Suicide by car isn't really that big of a thing, and most estimates I saw were from 2.5% to 5%. Removing suicides for both, cars cause more deaths per year than guns, even though there are more guns than cars. I will give you more people drive, but I would counter argue in theory it's harder for a non-criminal to obtain a driver's license than a firearm.

Is that why you porked the guy that stole your bicycle? You felt that you needed to reward him, as opposed to put him in prison?

While they make logical sense, they are not Constitutional, and should be replaced with standard picture IDs. Your auto insurance company could however require similar driver testing and then it would be fine. The government cannot legally require a DL for non-commercial vehicles.

I am going to pretend that you wrote this wrong because it is clearly false

The government has full authority to require a license to operate a vehicle on their roads that they built and paid for with our tax dollars

As the law has existed for probably 100 years, the operation of a motor vehicle is a privilege and is heavily regulated with a specific traffic code in every jurisdiction
