I knew people like this at Cambridge. If you want to know what motivates an article like this, yes being miserable is an ingredient, but it’s only symptomatic of underlying insecurity. The way to virtue signal in academia is to act intelligent and portray yourself as such. Unfortunately, this intelligence is misapplied by shining light on what’s considered unjust, than actually demonstrating help by doing it. It’s easier to hide behind the scholarly accolades than getting your hands dirty. However, modern academics don’t know how to help people since they’re awkwardly insecure, so they’re left to their own circumstances of posturing, power plays, and psychological warfare, thus attacking apple pie. It’s truly sad.
