re: Anyone who is for increased minimum wage tell me why we shouldn't jump straight to $100/hr

If we had NO minimum wage, would folks be working out there for nothing? 5 cents an hour? 10 cents an hour?
quote:Yup. Even if a company fires or cuts hours for enough employees to maintain their own labor costs, their production cost will still increase. The amount it costs them to buy stock for the shelves and buns for that mcburger will go up because that manufacturer will pass on their increased labor cost. So that grocery bill or that Micky D’s burger will still cost more... for everyone, including unskilled people struggling to even find a full-time minimum wage job opening.
This minimum wage screws people, particularly young and unskilled folks, out of starting level/trainee type jobs.
And unless there is some wild increase in demand, I’m just not sure those jobs will return. Companies would rather pay some corporate position a little extra to figure out how to maintain productivity/sales without the use of unskilled labor. So much for leveling the p(l)aying field right?

Someone never took a business or economics class.
Avg. fast food worker wage now is above minimum wage, at around $9/hr. I question the 50 cent cost with an increase in labor wages of 55%.
Prices increase, demand falls, and the owners and managers are faced with choices... cut quality, or cut service.
It's not going to have the effect you think it will.
Because money is a fiction, really, what you're really saying when you say people should have the right to a living wage is that people should have the right to luxuries they don't have in undeveloped countries. And that's simply not workable, economically.
Your post ignores economics lol. Every company does not behave the same. McDonalds is a low cost provider. They're business model is based on affordable food. If they could charge more for food, why wouldn't they? Even if demand reacted in a linear response (hint: it wouldn't). Their margins would be better and they would serve less food, needing less labor, so they would make more money. They don't do this because that's not their business model. Middle and upper class people won't buy McDonalds if their prices go up significantly. They would go to a higher quality restaurant that charged roughly the same. There are restaurants that already pay around 15, so why the hell would I eat at McDonalds instead of at the better restaurant?
McDonalds is simply gonna take a profit hit in this scenario. Sucks for them, but their business model simply does not work when they have super expensive food.
To make it simply say we have the three main classes of people:
Lower - Increase in gross buying power
Middle - Gross buying power stays the same
Upper - Gross buying power remains the same
The lower class is the only class that would be willing to buy the same demand or more at a higher price. However if EVERYTHING is more expensive, as you imply, their net buying power would go down so even then they would respond negatively to a price increase.
McDonalds is a luxary item and a low cost provider. The demand will swing drastically for a price swing.
The result is gonna be less profit, as opposed to significantly higher prices. You guys are just so used to corporations walking all over you that you think there is absolutely no way that a corporation would ever lose profit, but it happens.

Lol, I love this! These idiot SHEEPLE would agree and jump on the wagon if their Deep State Overlords say so. But hey, nobody pays attention to every single major store now has “Self-Checkout”
These IDIOTS DO NOT REALIZE THAT THEY WILL COMPUTERIZE & REPLACE YOU WITH ROBOTS. THEN, they send you the weekly check in your DIGITAL WALLET and you will get a BONUS IF YOUR A GOOD BOY & LET THEM INJECT YOU WITH SOME SYNTHETIC VACCINE for a Biological-Warfare Virus that has a death rate less than the amount of kids being abducted every day & veterans killing themselves over the years.
Screw these a-holes!

I was using it as an example of how the minimum wage HAS to go up at least a little bit every now and then.
Min wage should be completely and totally destroyed. Not increased. Not kept the same. Destroyed.

What difference to you does it make if the lowest on the totem pole makes 15/hr? Obviously there is inflation and the rate has to increase to keep up with that at least.
The reason for a minimum wage is also obvious so that in certain situations where there is surplus labor available business don’t cut wages to 25 cents an hour. The goal of corporations is to maximize profits for shareholders and that means paying people as little as the market bares.
As a small business owner myself my opinion on anyone paying employees less than 15/dollars an hour is they are generally unethical anyways.

I believe there should be a minimum wage, and I think it should slowly go up with inflation every few years.
It’s the very reason for inflation.
