Anyone annoyed that almost all news sites got rid of comment sections?

CNN, MSNBC, BBC are ones I've noticed got rid of their comment section. Fox News and ABC still have theirs for now. I like reading other peoples reaction to some of these "bombshell" articles. Are more news sites doing this to stop people calling out their BS????

Comment sections were shitshows

Those comments sections were worse cesspools than Twitter, but they were funny to read.

The media is taking them down because people's unsolicited factual comments often interfere with the agenda of the article.

Local news stations are only occupied by trolls and dumb people. They should stop comments on there as well IMO.

More and more sites are either limiting consumer commentary (NYT heavily moderates theirs now, for instance) or eliminating it altogether. It's a pity. I always enjoyed the comments as much as the articles. Most of it was a bunch of tomfoolery, but goddamn was it funny. And we got the occasional insight.

Just saying.

I think it was the "marketing" scams that ruined everything. I enjoyed all the comments on both sides, but every other post became "I made x amount of $, Ask me how"

This is the main reason. Too many people would scroll to the comments and see the commenters agenda didn't align with the agenda of the article. ESPN is probably Exhibit A here. How many times did their SJW laced articles have nothing but comments opposing it?
Comment sections actually drive traffic to sites, so it was not in these sites best interests to get rid of them.

WSJ just did this. They still have comment sections but only on select articles.

This and only this. My view is that an article (especially an editorial) that does not open itself up to reader comments is not worth reading. I remember during the Olympics one year a runner from the UK either won or medaled in the marathon. He was an immigrant from the third world, and there was a glowing article about the importance and benefits of this kind of immigration. It wasn't until you read the comments that you learned that he had family members that were involved in various serious crimes in the UK. It certainly shed a different light on the situation. The writer of the article either didn't bother to find that out, or he knew it and intentionally left it out of the article. I don't know which is worse.

Add the dissenter extension to your browser and you can comment on any article you'd like through GAB.

If the media were honest brokers they would welcome dissent.

My favorite comment section of all time is when LSUsports dot net had one for their articles. LSU had a horrendous April and May in baseball in 2010 and when they went through their losing streak only one guy would comment on the articles shitting all over and ripping the team in long paragraphs. Sometimes his son would even chime in with additional comments.

nola.com seems to be "closing" the comments section a lot more often - many times as soon as an article is published.
Part of the problem is - sometimes like this website - the comment section often devolves into personal attacks and complaining. If we as humans could have an intelligent discussion with each other, it would be much easier.

They can't handle people disagreeing with their propaganda.

This ^^^^ is exactly what it is. Usually some conservative with some substantive rebuttal derails the Prog/Dim circle jerk and the admins have to intervene on behalf of the SJWs.
