The central argument is that capitalism increasingly rewarded owning capital rather than performing labor.

But even those that perform labor have more disposable income than any point in human history and live better than the kings of yesteryear pre evil capitalism

“The Austerity School,” and the claims track.

Literally nothing in his claims "track" unless you accept the opening assumption that the largest, most successful economy the world has ever seen is actually wallowing in austerity.

To begin to accept his premise one is required to erase any knowledge of the widening quality-of-life chasm between Americans and the rest of the planet.

If such an erasure is managed, one then has to similarly assume differential austerity in one of the highest spending per capita 1°/2° Ed systems on the planet.

None of it tracks.

TLDR for anyone checking this thread:

OP posts about a subject she admittedly knows nothing about

Is provided answers on the subject

OP ignores what she’s been told to ask questions designed to force responses that fit her predetermined world view

The End

Is that the natural outcome of the system? Or was it somehow gamed to reward that?

what term would you like me to use instead?

It's not the term, it's the discussion around industrialization, based around your OP

quote:

Are you implying that deindustrialization is irrelevant when discussing the evolution of our economy?

Irrelevant? We are still plenty industrialized, but we have moved onto a more advanced economy. Devolving into a lower-level manufacturing/industrial nation would be -EV.

You sound pretty Marxist there. “You will buy what we tell you to buy”.

Are you illiterate? How do you turn this:

People buying shite they don't need, and having the ability to go into debt to do so, is just a symptom of freedom.

into

quote:

“You will buy what we tell you to buy”.

Even those that own nothing are rewarded by the societal advances that come from capitalistic markets.

Hence why 34k American puts you in the 1% of the world

This is a good point. The world two most successful communist countries Vietnam and China only prosper because they have some quasi capitalism and are major exporters.

Eh, the people posting in agreement with me understand there is a strawman avatar of SFP and then real SFP, and it's just hard to spin what I actually post into that strawman (although yakster did just try)

austerity is the alleged goal of neoliberal policies that have taken hold of our government over the last 40 years.

All of her threads happen exactly the same way. She pretends she’s just a curious intellectual and then spends the next four pages ignoring what’s been said to constantly say yeah but what about this

I just wish globalization would stop being used as an excuse to issue work visas and suppress American's wages

A lot of that is just tweaking government policy to be more responsive to real time economic/employment data.

And then people will argue its a policy around people and can't be unstable, which then creates a natural avenue for a decrease in demand for the policy, so win-win.

Many things that we need to onshore, though. Like medication.

You have to be careful with the "national security" stuff, b/c it will just turn into "infrastructure" and can become anything.

the reason I think you’re an arse is because you’re guilty of the same behavior fwiw. Like the others, I believe you just do it for fake internet social status.

Since we’re kind of talking about sociology…

I'm not at all disagreeing. Marxism in a pure form has never been implemented because it's not really possible to maintain. You'll still have haves and have nots with no room for improvement. One just needs to look at the USSR and others.
China is different and you can't look at them and say "they made marxism" work because that system is unique and other than their strict leadership they are a capitalist nation now.
