But what if they lose money on an investment already taxed? Do they now get the tax reimbursed? How does such a tax on unrealized gains work?

And what if the unrealized gain turns into a slightly larger unrealized gain in two years?

The government loves creating problems and then creating solutions to the problems they've created.

(Causes staggering inflation by printing trillions of dollars.

Raises taxes to pull money out of generational "wealth" held in land, precious metals, etc.)

frick the government. It's theft is what it is.

How would that even work? People would be forced to sell to cover their insane tax bills

What a truly awful idea and no chance that ever actually happens

Who speculates what unrealized income is worth? Art, real estate, rare vehicles, etc.

The asinine Democrat plan only works for stocks.

The printing of the money was the original theft. This actually was billionaires stealing from the common man.

It's all supposed to demonize and destroy those who live life responsibly.

Those who live within their means and save for the future will be taxed. Those that spend like drunken sailors will be rewarded.

Democrats always reward the stupid and irresponsible.

Unrealized gains are most definitely not " Income, from whatever source derived ", so not taxable under the 16th amendment.

The goal is to make families with farm and other land sell their inherited property in order to pay the tax bill on it.

It won't start that way but will get there eventually. Then Blackrock and Bill Gates can buy it all up.

You'll own nothing and like it..

They’ll make sure that the tax rate on losses is lower. That should help out those who have losses.

And these idiots were all in favor of electing a democrat. They got the “ best” of all this time . People cannot spend their money properly they must have government take it and spend even more than they take .

Can they write off “unrealized depreciation and losses” as well?

That is simply raw meet for the crazies in the party. We have a larger problem if unrealized gains are taxed.

When your read Warren Buffet’s 2022 letter to shareholders, he dives straight into this topic. Shareholders have already paid large amounts of tax through the businesses. “We gave at the office.”

An earlier posted nailed it - their goal will start with billionaires then work their way to farm / land owners.

Scary stuff….but it is not income.

You will own nothing and not pay any taxes.

Who will fund the government?

When we have a digital currency and money suddenly dissappears from your account you will sing a different tune.

And digital currency is about 2 years away

This is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. They are going to tax people on income they haven't earned yet. So what if this income never happens? Will the government give you a refund on the taxes you paid on the income that never happened? Good Lord only a democrat could come up with something so insane.
