Bama has assured me i'm too stupid to pick my own plan

My sister called me last night to discuss this. Her carrier is dropping out of the market. Her doctor, whom she's had for 20 something years, isn't in her network. Cigna doesn't cover out of network, at all. She's not going to change doctors. The pediatrician of 2 of her 3 kids that they've had since birth... not in the network.

Premiums... going from 1,200 to 2,800 per month.

What plan would BamaAtl have her choose that would let her keep her doctors, since she liked them and all that, and that's what Obama promised...

With kids, going without insurance is out of the question, but it is basically 100% useless.

also, i went and looked. in 2013 i paid 150/month. in 2014 that jumped to 300/month. in 2017 i paid 512/mo.

This is what happened to me also. I paid $125 a month in 2013. In 2014 the Obamacare mandates kicked in, the plan I had in 2013 was cancelled by Aetna and a bronze level ACA plan was offered to me for the wonderful price of $320 a month. A 150% increase in 2014 when the mandates kicked in told me everything I needed to know....the ACA mandates had a HUGE effect on premium pricing.

My premiums where $465 in 2017 and would be $576 this year at the lowest priced plan available. I refuse to pay that price.

From $125 month in 2013 to $576 in 2018 is insane. Add to this my deductible and co-insurance has also grown.

That's easy. That was a junk plan that wouldn't have paid out anything, had a lifetime cap, would have cancelled you if you got the sniffles and you were just too stupid to realize it. Probably didn't even have maternity coverage or a no cost annual check up built in, did it?

no no no you see the problem isn't picking a new plan, per Bama

the problem is that the insurance your sister previously had didn't cover anything and would drop you if you ever used it

oh 100%

from 2013 to 2018 (assuming i stay with my current plan, which is essentially the same thing), my rates went up almost 400% and my deductible (from that point) are about the same. this isn't some issue of "Republican influence" or "your rates would have gone up anyway" simlpeton argument

i'm supposed to be starting a life. the money i could use to do that (buy a home, etc) are going towards insurance. but that's not it, completely. that money that i have to spend to prevent me from moving up economically is being given to others, many who do own houses, have families, etc.

so again, i ask, why am i being punished? what, exactly, did i do wrong?

...and if Republicans would just write a big blank check so that these Obamacare failures were no longer felt by consumers or insurance companies but rather by tax payers, none of this would happen.

Well, I see your point. Covered a broken ankle, broken wrist (she's kinda clumsy.. broke her ankle walking to the car, broke her wrist somehow simply walking down the stairs by catching it on the handrail?), never canceled, premiums went up by about 20 or 30 bucks from year to year just as one might expect and never batted an eye about paying for anything. And was Blue Cross with a wide network, covering both hospital systems in Memphis.

Not Cigna, which won't cover her doctor and only uses Methodist, not Baptist.

Bama will ignore her previous point and shift to "well BCBS wouldn't have pulled out had Trump made illegal payments" and/or "blame Republicans for not appropriating money for the CSR payments", while ignoring that none of that would be necessary had the DEMs/Obama not passed the ACA in the first place. it's still a bad law that fricked over people like me regardless of what the GOP did after the fact

the law makes no real rational sense, was way too big of an undertaking for a government, and was just a partisan undertaking by one party. the only way the ACA makes sense is if you convince yourself that young people should be completely fricked over to subsidize old people who refuse to pay market rates, irresponsible people who preferred to spend money on luxury goods instead of health care (who still selfishly used health care and refused to pay for it), and a VERY SMALL population of people with PECs

Plus BCBS has been cutting back on offerings before the CSRs were “canceled”.

It does, actually

Your rates would have barely gone up if not for Trump and Republicans:

so, now that i've posted screen shots: what did i do that is so wrong that i am being punished?

Thanks for the screen shots! They were very helpful in helping to narrow down your age and location. Considering your desire to not use any health care, have you looked at off-exchange plans?

But as to what you personally did wrong, there's not really an answer. It's more what your state and federally-elected politicians did wrong. They didn't expand Medicaid, in a state that badly needed it. They fought to constantly tear the ACA apart, instead of fix it. They weakened the individual mandate, harming the risk pool. etc.

from the $150/month i was paying in 2013?

or from the 340% increase on that amount that i am paying in 2017?

i'd still be paying for that through increased taxes. that isn't an argument suitable for this discussion

quote:

the ACA more than doubled my health care premiums from 2013 onward. that's on the ACA

that's still punishment

the entire structure of the ACA is to take more away from people like me who did everything the way we're supposed to so that other people can use that excess taken from me to subsidize their lifestyle. THAT is the punishment. you still haven't answered how that makes any sense

I emailed Mary Landrieu when she was still Senator complaining about the cost after ACA. The response I got from her office was astonishing--they said "it was going up anyway".

This is how they think. They are convinced ACA saved everybody money.

Fools.

This entire ACA thing was nothing but a way to enrich the health industry and the health insurance industry while subsidizing typical democrat voters.

It boils down to this---the government is making us do business with private businesses and making us buy a product that is more than we want and then telling us if we do not have the money to buy it from the industry they will subsidize our premium with tax money.

I wish they would do the same for my business.

No, from what you paid in 2017. There was always going to be a jump as EHBs kicked in, and likely more as the markets stabilized. Next year was going to be a very stable year compared to 2017, then Republicans happened.

i'd still be paying for that through increased taxes.

Do you think the denominator of people who would be helping you to pay it is smaller as all US taxpayers, or Louisiana residents on the individual health exchange market?

No, it isn't. The structure is to provide health insurance to the largest number of people at the lowest cost in total, while still providing basic protections for things like PECs and EHBs and lifetime caps.
