Supposedly.

Basically everything a faction of the MAGA movement hates right now.
But let me give you some background first and then we can get into the questions:
- Came to the US in 23+ years ago on a student visa and met my wife grad school, who was also on a student visa
- We both got dual graduate degrees in engineering while we were here
- We were on a H1B visa for 16 agonizing years before we got our green cards and on our way to becoming naturalized citizens soon (25 years after we first came to this country legally)
- We both work for the Mag 7 and now make $750K+ per year combined (mainly driven by living in a HCOL area + RSU stock appreciation) but early in our careers also started with relatively big base salaries since we were working for big tech ($300K+ combined), so would like to think we didn't displace any entry level American workers at a Edison HQ or a Disney IT department
- We own 3 homes, and rent out two of them and have two US born children in middle school and our kids do piano, chess, robotics, basketball and swimming which is par for the course among other immigrant families, which got Vivek in a bit of a trouble on Twitter yesterday for saying out aloud
Now AMA. I may even answer Laura Loomer or Josiah Lippincott type questions.
There's nothing to ask. You're probably MORE OF AN AMERICAN than half these "They Took Our Jobs" dipshits on this board.
You've done well for yourself. You took full advantage of the American Dream exactly the way it was supposed to be. We are a country of (supposed to be legal) immigrants and you've done it all the right way.
So fly your American Flag, enjoy the July 4 BBQ and tell the rest of these motherfrickers to eat a dick.

Why was America a bigger draw to you over other Western countries? Once you got here how much culture shock did you experience? Did you ever regret coming here over other places and why? Knowing what you know now would you do it all again? Did you / do you ever send money back to family in your home country and what do you make of wanting to tax remittances at 100%? How hard was the decision to come here and leave everything and everyone you knew behind?
Congrats on doing it the right way. I’m genuinely happy reading stories like yours.

Does it frustrate you seeing the red carpet being laid out in front of the invaders by the Dems/RINOs?

Do you think younger Americans lack work ethic and discipline?
Frankly, I don't encounter enough Gen Zs in my daily life to have a strong opinion on that, but based on what I read online, I think there's some truth to it. However, it's also true that America is the one country where you have the opportunity to literally pursue any path you desire. So, for every thousand or so seemingly unmotivated young people, there's likely an entrepreneur among them who will create a company or have a significant impact on their society or community. I'm not suggesting they'll all start a tech giant; I'm saying they'll likely initiate small businesses. I believe this country has always produced a sufficient number of these individuals, ensuring it will remain the best place to live and flourish for generations to come.

I generally hate all immigration. Not because of xenophobia, but because I generally dislike most people in general.
But you're right. That's the Americam Dream. Somehow nowadays everyone wants to act like it's the Americam Birthright. Basically be mediocre through life but expect to live like a TV personality.
The American Dream was a dream and goal that was always designed to be a battle every single day. An actual accomplishment, not a quality of life metric.

Okay. How is this in any way beneficial to Americans as a whole? I already know why Musk, et al want it, but explain to me why I should want this.

This flood of posts about this H1B issue is so silly.
H1B was sold as a way bring in workers with niche skillsets. It is currently almost exclusively being used by large companies to save on entry-level wages. I'm sure people can find fringe, but real examples of highly trained workers being brought over just as easily as people can find fringe, but real examples of skill-less slaves being brought over.
The real question is whether we want low wage, entry-level white collar workers coming to the country. If so, the program is doing what we want. If not, we should push for the program to be reformed.
Of course, all of these posts are missing actual numbers that would help people take an informed position. Makes you wonder what the bots are hoping we ignore while pointlessly arguing over this issue. Perhaps that the 3m illegal border crossings in 2024 is many times larger than the 85k H1B visas per year?

This response may have seemed tongue-in-cheek to you, but both my wife and I understand that the kind of life we have now would not have been possible in any other country besides America. We are deeply grateful for this country and ensure our children are developing an appreciation for it too as they grow older.

Does much of American culture promote sewage values? This is a trick question.
Of course it does. Ignoring the legitimate debate over of the proper level of legal immigration, anyone who denies that reality is delusional.
So when our nation invades and permanently occupies 3rd world countries in which the majority of the population has fundamentalist theological views, is it any wonder that our troops are not universally welcomed as liberators?

I am glad that you have a nice life full of material wealth. You are obviously a winner in a family of winners. I will make one observation about the original post; at no time do you express gratitude to your adopted country or note the fact that the sacrifice of our forefathers, much of it in blood, has made your life possible. Nor do you mention anything about your respect for our traditions, principles, ideals and Institutions. And of course we can surmise that you will likely not likely have an immediate family member serve in our military. Your post is about what you have received and not a word about what you have given back, other than taxes.
That said, good luck and carry on. I am glad you are here.

Sounds like you've done well for yourself. Don't blame you for taking advantage of the circumstances and making the best of them to create a life and family in America.
With that said, America should act like a country made up of sovereign citizens. And that means the sovereign citizens should act in their own interest first, to their fellow countrymen. It's not just about feel.good.stories of immigrants who came here and worked hard to make the best of their life.
Immigration should be very limited only to unique individuals who truly bring something to our country that could help the sovereign citizens in said country. That's it.

How much $$ have you gotten from the American tax payers....
Total?

I think we need a refocus on the issue.
There are fears that the H1B visa program will be continued to be used as a tool for corporations keeping costs lower by not paying American wages.
Call us lazy Elon. Or just call us not willing to live in the debt after investing heavily in our education and this terrific economy.

Might be a surprise to you, but some people can consider multiple things at once.
And not only that, but how they fit into the big picture.
