Always such liberal looking people who work the voting locations

Why is it always the most liberal looking women and men who are working with their stupid little name tags.
I can notice an obvious change in their demeanor from dealing with me (white male) vs a “minority”.
I’m always as polite as possible but some years they seem mad you’re even there.
Any similar experiences?

Isn't it mostly volunteers?
I have no idea who the people at my polls vote for. It's just mostly older people and they are always pleasant in my area.
