If DeSantis doesn't get to say he'd have handled the Covid response differently, why does Trump get to say he'd have handled Biden's economy differently?

I've not chosen a side in this Trump/DeSantis battle but...
If this topic is true it's a real shame that Trump single-handedly ripped the AL senate seat from one of his biggest supporters - Mo Brooks - simply for Mo saying at a rally "let's move on from 2020 and focus on the future" (paraphrased). Trump vindictively handed the seat to establishment swampmonster Katie Britt.
I've not chosen a side in this Trump/DeSantis battle but...
